Yorkville University has an opening for the role of International Student Advisor, at its New Westminster campus.The International Student Advisor is responsible for providing a broad range of support services to a diverse group of on-campus international students, aimed at enhancing their student experience and success. Additionally, this role will provide academic support as required and contribute to on-campus student retention generally.Position OverviewResponsible for developing and implementing appropriate settlement services for on-campus international students, including pre-arrival, housing and transportation.Develop, implement and oversee the on-campus international student orientation and provide appropriate follow up.Advise and support on-campus international students on a wide range of issues including student finance and debt, immigration, health insurance and health care, personal and academic matters, travel, consumer matters.Responsible for planning, promoting and implementing on-campus international student activities, social events, special topic workshops etc.Develop and maintain resource information for on-campus international students in areas related to housing, doctors, legal support etc.Work collaboratively with Program Chairs, Student Finance, Student Services and other support groups to ensure that on-campus international student issues are resolved within established timelines.Provide academic support for student retention initiatives such as tutoring and student at-risk management.Skill RequirementsUndergraduate degree is required.2-4 years’ experience advising international students is a MUSTExperience of working with people from diverse cultures and backgroundsKnowledge of Canadian immigration law, policies and procedures as they relate to international studentsESL experience and certification would be an asset but not requiredCustomer service orientedProven organizational and administrative skills with meticulous record-keeping and attention to detailProven ability to be creative and innovativeFlexibility with regard to work schedule and location.Outstanding oral and written communication skillsCapable of working both independently and as part of a team.About Yorkville UniversityFounded in 2004, Yorkville University is a Canadian university with a national presence.
