Work ArrangementsRegular hours of work are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. The work may involve hours outside of the normal work day timeframe, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, and strategic partners to provide physical wellness services and opportunities to support students and employees. The Operations Manager is responsible for fostering a healthy and effective learning and work environment for student and employee development.ResponsibilitiesLEADERSHIP AND ADMINISTRATION

  • Develops, monitors, and implements operational objectives to achieve departmental initiatives to support the College’s Strategic Plan;
  • Leads and supervises employees including recruitment and selection, on/offboarding, training, performance evaluation, and discipline where appropriate;
  • Supports employee professional development through performance feedback, goal setting, and training;
  • Contributes to effective employee and labour relations through HR consultation and administering the Collective Agreement, and College policies, and procedures;
  • Implements and maintains communication plans for the Athletics, Recreation and Sports Institute to inform the College community of initiatives, programs and events;
  • Ensures operational processes align with department procedures and college policies;
  • Liaises with College departments to ensure compliance with College policies, SOPs and guidelines;
  • Manages compliance with policies, procedures and processes of external regulatory governing bodies and stakeholders such as the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST), Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC), National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA), British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA), etc.;
  • Manages and plans day-to-day and regular activities including resource allocation for the Athletics, Recreation and Sports Institute operations to ensure best practices and standard service levels;
  • Conducts program reviews to enhance the relevance and quality of programming and services;
  • Plans, prepares, monitors and exercises signing authority of operations budgets under the direction of the Director;
  • Participates and represents Athletics, Recreation or Sport Institute as required on internal and external committees and regulatory governing bodies; e.g. CCAA, PACWEST, NWAC, NIRSA, etc.;
  • Acts on behalf of the Director in their absence;
  • Other related duties.
STUDENT SUPPORT, SAFETY AND SECURITY
  • Fosters relationships and partnerships to enhance operational services to support student success;
  • Supports student success through the implementation and delivery of best practices within the related disciplines, e.g. athletics, recreation, and continue education;
  • Fosters an equitable, diverse and inclusive environment for students to support objectives and initiatives as identified in the College’s Strategic Plan;
  • Provides support, guidance and direction in emergency situations, and navigates students to appropriate College supports and services;
  • Manages student conduct as per the appropriate College and/or regulatory governing body policies;
  • Ensures the College’s risk are minimized and managed through established mitigation strategies;
  • Reviews, assess and approves, where applicable, safety protocols for off campus student activities, e.g. Off-Campus Activity Plan;
  • Liaises with the Safety, Security and Risk Management to develop risk mitigation processes for Athletics, Recreation and Sports Institute programs, services, contractual agreements, events, including off campus activities and travel;
  • Ensures and manages compliance of student-athlete recruitment and eligibility as per College and sport governing body policies, i.e. CCAA, PACWEST, NWAC;
  • Collaborates with Enrollment Services to administer student awards as per College and sport governing bodies policies and procedures, i.e. CCAA, PACWEST, NWAC.
To Be Successful in this Role You Will NeedEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
  • Bachelor’s degree in a discipline such as Sport Management, Physical Education, or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
  • Minimum of three (3) years progressive experience working in Athletics, and/or Recreation;
  • Experience managing and supervising employees and students within a unionized environment;
  • Experience developing, managing and reconciling budgets;
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying complex policies and regulations;
  • Ability to organize, establish priorities, schedules and assign work related tasks;
  • Ability to think critically, be decisive, and work collaboratively to foster a solution-oriented approach and environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to model appropriate professional, ethical and collaborative behaviours consistent with the responsibilities of this position;
  • Knowledge of the learning environment within post-secondary, i.e. formal or informal approaches to teaching, or sport specific coaching;
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and consensus-building skills;
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet operational needs that may arise outside of traditional work hours;
  • Requires the ability to travel within BC, Canada, and potentially International.
