We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Relief Full Time Clinical Perfusionist to join our Perfusion Services at Royal Columbian Hospital located in New Westminster, B.C. In this role, you will monitor physiological responses of patients undergoing open-heart surgery while under the supervision of the Perfusion Services Coordinator, Cardiac Anaesthetist and Cardiac Surgeon.Build on your education and experience as you:

  • Assemble and operate extracorporeal equipment necessary to support or temporarily replace the patients circulatory and respiratory functions. This equipment may include heart-lung machines, intra-aortic balloon devices, and precision blood pumps.
  • Manage myocardial perfusion and protection techniques including cardioplegia delivery systems, topical cooling pads and myocardial ischemia monitors.
  • Utilize a variety of techniques including hypothermia, haemodilution, haemoconcentration and autotransfusion as adjuncts to external circulation and support.
  • Monitor and manage hemodynamic pressures, blood gases, anti-coagulation levels, electrocardiograph and coronary/systemic blood flow.
  • Administer blood products, drugs, anaesthesia vapours, crystalloid solutions and medical gases as directed by Cardiac Anaesthetists and surgeons.
  • Carry out various physiological measurements and calculations as well as various calibration and maintenance duties as required while maintaining strict sterile technique.
  • Maintains accurate, legible records and statistics.

  • Graduated from a recognized program in Perfusion Science
  • Two years of experience is preferred but new and recent graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Cardiovascular Perfusionists and/or American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion Certified.

Qualifications:Education and ExperienceGraduation from a recognized program in Perfusion Science plus two years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Cardiovascular Perfusionists (CSCP) and/or American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion Certified.Skills and Abilities
