Job Description

Work ArrangementsThe Music Department is seeking to hire a probationary regular instructor to teach the Music history survey courses in our University Transferable Music Diploma programs.The position is half-time (4 courses per academic year) and starts December 16, 2022 in preparation for the Winter semester.   • teaching all four survey courses in the history of western music: MUSC 1120, 1220, 2320, 2420;
  • planning, organizing, and managing learning activities and maintaining quality learner-centred instruction;
  • assessing and evaluating students’ progress and achievement;
  • overseeing curriculum revision and development in music history;
  • working with the library to ensure currency and relevance of music history resources;
  • attending departmental meetings, sharing in departmental responsibilities, and participating in committee work;
  • maintaining currency in the field through professional development activity.
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
  • A Ph. D in Musicology, or equivalent;
  • Enthusiasm for current disciplinary scholarship and the ability to engage first and second year students;
  • An inclusive musical approach; conversant with multiple genres, including but not limited to Western art, popular, jazz, world, and Canadian musics;
  • The ability to engage with reconciliation and decolonization in a meaningful way in the music history classroom;
  • Demonstrated experience and success in active student-centred instruction that draws on current pedagogical approaches in music history;
  • Demonstrated success in teaching music history at the post-secondary level;
  • Familiarity with online and audio/visual resources for music history;
  • Evidence of ongoing research and/or other scholarly work in music;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and a willingness to work in a highly collaborative environment;
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills.
