And we’re looking for passionate, motivated people to join us in making one of Canada’s best colleges even better.The RoleThe Student Research Assistants will support work already underway in the DC library and interdisciplinary Gender, Sexualities and Women’s Studies (GSWS) program on the production, distribution and research value of zines for redressing representational silences in mainstream media. Zines are self-published, small press or homemade publications that might be produced by an individual or collective seeking to express a personal, political and/or artistic point of view. Zine authors and producers often represent experiences that are marginalized or non-existent in mainstream media. In this role you will help to identify both zines for acquisition and “zinesters” to interview with particular focus on key transnational and intersectional feminist issues including but not limited to: First Nations advocacy; decolonization; MMIWG; crime and justice; grassroots organizing; Black Lives Matter and anti-racist activism; the Black Canadian experience, gender and sexuality ‘perzines’ and fiction (intersectional voices); health and anti-poverty action including but not limited to the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver.Responsibilities
