Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE:Reporting to the Projects Manager - ITS and under the guidance of the Team Lead, Data Security, is responsible for the monitoring and enforcement of security procedures; resolving security violations in a timely manner; identifying security and privacy risks and threats across Regional Departments; researching and recommending processes, procedures and systems to enhance the Corporation’s security systems to prevent intrusion and security threats; and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and security of the Corporation’s technological systems that protect data from unauthorized users.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyzes data, performs research and makes recommendations to deliver, enforce and advise staff and customers on security threats and remediation measures.
  • Monitors and maintains documentation and diagrams of data centre and network security components, including locations, serial numbers, revision levels, hardware maintenance agreements, software licensing and service history.
  • Researches and analyzes data and makes recommendations on specialized security hardware and software solutions to enhance security capabilities.
  • Monitors the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems and when necessary, takes independent action to respond to, investigate, and remediate security issues such as malware, denial of service, intrusions etc., and refers issues to the Team Lead Data Security when appropriate.
  • Monitors systems to protect organization’s data from unauthorized users.
  • Identifies reports and resolves security violations on a timely basis.
  • Utilizes incident tracking software to manage requests for support from customers, and the IT Service Desk, in compliance with corporate and ITS standards, guidelines and policies.
  • Notifies and presents information to internal staff and customers of security features for new technology acquisitions and implementation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Computer Sciences or a related field, or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in an information security field including experience with security technologies, security monitoring and problem resolution in a planning and operational capacity within a large multi-department organization.
  • Satisfactory Police Criminal Background Check.
  • Certifications in MCSE; CCNA; CompTIA Security + required.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in Information Security Management with processes, tools, techniques and practices for assuring adherence to standards associated with accessing, altering and protecting organizational data.
  • Security monitoring experience with one or more SIEM technologies such as IBM QRadar SIEM and instrusion detection and prevention technologies.
  • Strong understanding of security incident management, malware management and vulnerability management processes.
  • Knowledge of network and internet security in the development and implementation of safeguards to detect and prevent intrusion, unauthorized access and assure logical physical security of corporate voice and data networks.
  • Good knowledge of client-server applications, multi-tier web applications, relational databases, Checkpoint firewalls, Cisco VPNs, and enterprise Anti-malware products.
  • Strong understanding of networking principles including TCP/IP, WANs, LANs and commonly used Internet protocols such as SMTP, HTTP, FTP, POP, LDAP.
  • Knowledge of trends, industry practices, organizational security standards, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of multiple operating systems and system administration skills (Windows, Linux, Unix).
  • Knowledge of information security legislation including the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) and the Public Health Information Act (PHIPA).
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self management, accountability, flexibility and adaptability.
