Job Description

Position: Engagement CoachWork Location: Sutton D.H.S, Keswick H.S., Huron Heights S.S., or Dr. J.M. Denison S.S.Salary: $36.90/hourWork Schedule: 35 hours/weekApplication Deadline: October 28, 2022Interested candidates are required to complete the following on-line application to the attention of: The Recruitment Team. These four (4) term positions are effective immediately and ending on or about June 30, 2023.In compliance with board policies and procedures and under the direction of the Secondary School Principal, the Student Engagement Coach will be responsible for connecting with secondary school students who have stopped attending school due to recent pandemic challenges and re-engage them providing pathways planning support.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To seek out, cultivate and support opportunities for disengaged students to participate in mentoring relationships;
  • To facilitate connections to support services, community organizations and other supports for students and families;
  • To reach out to and facilitate relationships with crisis prevention and management services;
  • To work with staff in secondary schools to identify students in risk of disengaging from school and to collaboratively devise plans to support students remaining engaged in school
  • To support students with social-emotional needs as well as academic needs
  • To use existing data to identify students in need of support, in collaboration with the Student Success Team
  • To collect and analyze data related to re-engagement work to determine the impact of the work and to inform ministry reporting
  • To collaborate with administrators, teachers, parents, guardians and families to respond to individual and system barriers that affect the engagement, well-being and learning of students
  • To explore community living supports for students who are living away from home;
  • To facilitate pathway conversations and explore program options with students and families;
  • To promote student well-being and connecting students with mental health supports
  • To support with Student Success Monitoring Plans and serve as a caring adult for students re-engaging in school
  • To attend meetings as requested;
  • To liaise with the YRDSB Pathways Team for support with pathways messaging and information on specialized programming
  • To perform other duties as assigned.
LINE OF RESPONSIBILITY:Responsible to the School Principal or designate.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma with a recognized three-year diploma or degree in youth studies or a related discipline is required, or equivalent, or as approved by the board.
  • Minimum 3 years related experience is required.
  • Knowledge of current YRDSB priorities, such as the Dismantling Anti-Black Racism Strategy and the Directors Action Plan, would be an asset
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and current Board approved/implemented software is required.
  • Proficient data analysis, problem-solving and presentation skills are required.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are required.
