Job Description

POSITION PURPOSEReporting to the Program Manager, Technology Projects and System Support, is responsible for processing service requests to provide technical and user support for the operation and maintenance of over 200 automated systems and related applications, networks and voice/data communications that support the Department’s programs; providing staff instruction on the use of the technology, and participating in technology projects related to the mandated programs and systems; supporting technology and project related activities; processing Departmental workflow automation requests and development, implementation, operation and maintenance of the automated workflows and processing functional support solutions, as assigned.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains efficient and continuous operation of all systems and technology related to the delivery of federally and provincially mandated programs, and departmental point solutions, to ensure availability of equipment, applications and services to Department staff, as directed.
  • Provides technical support for the operation and maintenance of hardware, software, technology infrastructure, and voice/data communications facilities within the Department in accordance with Federal, Provincial, Regional, and Departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs Systems Administration functions, including the maintenance of user accounts, security and ensuring that local operating procedures are performed, according to Provincial, Regional and Departmental policy and procedures, as directed.
  • Participates in, technology project assignments including the development and implementation of new applications, moves within Department locations and other projects, as assigned.
  • Plans, monitors and supports testing of configurations for electronic processes; analyzes and configures backend setup.
  • Performs system administration functions including the maintenance and security of user accounts, as it relates to the workflow business rules, in coordination with ITS Branch.
  • Imports/exports and manipulates data from existing data sources to expedite workflow creation.
  • Writes complex queries and scripts to extract data/field values from database applications, to allow for client reporting and data capture.
  • Works with clients, external vendors and other stakeholders, including consultation with ITS Branch, as appropriate, for project management of new or changed configurations.
  • Liaises with ITS Branch in the connection of data sources while providing functional support recommendations; refers technical recommendations relating to configuration and system infrastructure to ITS Branch and follows up, as appropriate.
  • May occasionally be required to respond to emergency situations outside of normal business hours, as related to the Departmental Emergency Response Plan.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Computer Sciences or related discipline or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience with responsibilities for computer systems technical end-user support, database and network administration, software configuration, wireless hardware support and installation, computer hardware upgrades, peripheral support.
  • Experience in the support, configuration and deployment of current computer systems software and hardware technologies.
  • Experience in computer systems development processes using databases and programming languages.
  • Functional experience with configuring, testing and troubleshooting secure wireless wide area networks.
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Checks (PVSC).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of networking concepts (LAN/WAN), configuring, testing, and troubleshooting secure wireless local area networks, Client-Server application architecture, Relational Database design, SQL development, software development, and interface development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current PC configurations, components, communication and functions.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer focus, communication, collaboration and personal ownership.
