Job Description

POSITION PURPOSEThis position is responsible for the investigation and cost recovery of damage to Regional infrastructure resulting from motor vehicle accidents. Performs financial analysis, supports activities related to the annual operating and capital budget development and review process. Assists with the production of financial statements and reports. Conducts regular reporting interface requirements to Regional financial systems. Performs financial duties and tasks supporting program and service delivery activities.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recovers costs associated with damage to Regional infrastructure resulting from motor vehicle accidents.
  • Reviews police reports and obtains additional information as needed.
  • Reviews information from internal stakeholders and prepares invoice requisitions to recover costs.
  • Coordinates with internal stakeholders for the collection of outstanding receivables.
  • Negotiates with external stakeholders including customized payments plans, in conjunction with Finance, to resolve outstanding receivables.
  • Develops and maintains accurate records of financial transactions for programs and services.
  • Ensures accurate and timely input of data into the accounting systems, investigates, and resolves discrepancies.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Successful completion of a University Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of two core Chartered Professional Accountant – Professional Education Program (CPA-PEP) courses.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in applying financial analysis and forecasting, data comparisons, variance analysis and related financial activities as well as exposure to project management.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles and practices and strategic financial planning concepts.
  • Knowledge of budget processes, principles and practices, data processing systems, accounting, and financial control procedures.
  • Knowledge of financial management systems and provincial/municipal statutes and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability in the Region’s core competencies.
