Victim Services of York Region is a non-profit charitable agency that works in partnership with York Regional Police and the OPP to provide 24-hour emotional support and practical assistance to persons victimized by crime or tragic circumstance. Victim Services of York Region is seeking two (2) Overnight On-call Crisis Intervention Counsellors to assist persons victimized by crime and tragic circumstance. This after hours on-call position requires being available, within York Region, overnights between 9:00 pm and 7:00 am, on weekdays, weekends, and statutory holidays. This is an ongoing two-week rotating shift of four (4) nights one week and three (3) nights the second week to provide immediate response to crisis calls, as well as on scene crisis response. On-call compensation is in keeping with Employment Standards Act of Ontario and the On-Call, Overnight Crisis Couonsellors will paid a guaranteed three hours per shift for being on-call and will be compensated for any time worked in addition to the three hours if called out.The hourly compensation for this position is between $30 and $33 per hour.Responsibilities:Office Administration:Deliver VSY service in York Region in accordance with our mandate, procedures and guidelinesMaintain strict client confidentiality, as per VSY policy and procedure guidelines, including any issues with Victims/ Witnesses, VSY Volunteers, Board Members, and StaffWork cooperatively in a team environment with all VSY Staff, Police and Fire Services, Volunteers, Community Representatives, as well as the Executive Director and Board of Directors for VSYMaintain appropriate record-keeping/documentation and client files, statistical and outcome measurement tools as required by VSY policies and proceduresIn consultation with the Program Manager and Executive Director, ensure the current service delivery of VSY, based on local needs and/or resources, is being metMaintain open communication with the Program Manager and the Executive Director concerning all operations and risk management issues related to the VSY organization.Client Service Delivery:Maintain a time sensitive delivery response for telephone follow up, in order to meet the individual needs of victimsResponsible for monitoring our 24-hour crisis response line when on shift, assessing client needs and dispatching volunteers as neededProvide support, advocacy, referrals and connections to community resourcesAttendance on scene when the case requires and if volunteers are unavailable to be dispatchedResponsible for volunteer(s)’ direct service needs while on shiftTraining & Outreach:Liaise with local programs, police and other social service agencies, as required, to promote the VSY program, exchange information, as well as establish and maintain a cooperative allianceEducate Police Officers and Fire Service personnel in the appropriate use of the VSY programParticipate in regional disaster training opportunitiesQualifications:At a minimum, the successful candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in Social Work (BSW)Ability to work evenings into overnight as scheduled, and have reliable transportation to travel throughout York RegionThe successful candidate must have a valid G driver’s licence and be able to travel anywhere in York Region within 45 - 60 minutesExperience with responding to persons victimized by crime or tragic circumstance including: domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, traffic and fire fatalities, suicide, sudden death, and homicideSound, trauma informed, knowledge of crisis intervention and victim issues; ability to keep knowledge up to date on available services for clientsAbility to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgroundsAble to function well in high stress, fluid environmentsExcellent interpersonal skillsExcellent active listening skills and the ability to communicate in a clear and straightforward mannerBilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an assetExcellent working knowledge of Microsoft OfficeStrong organizational abilitiesSound, trauma informed, knowledge of crisis intervention and victim issues; ability to keep knowledge up to date on available services for clientsA preliminary requirement will be a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) reportAn annual criminal records check (Police Check) will be required of the successful candidateVSY provides equal employment opportunities for all individuals regardless of age, sex, disability, race, ethnic origin, citizenship, sexual orientation, marital status or any other ground as described in the Ontario Human Rights Code.
