Job Description

POSITION PURPOSEReporting to the Supervisor, Long Term Care Maintenance and Security, is responsible for maintaining a safe and hazard-free environment for residents, staff and visitors of the Region’s Long Term Care Health Centres by directing the necessary and scheduled maintenance and/or upkeep tasks of the physical buildings, and equipment; providing guidance, training, mentoring, and co-ordinating, assigning, scheduling and checking the work of assigned staff.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs tasks required for the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the physical building and equipment of the Long Term Care Health Centres, including repairs to equipment and furniture, installation of equipment and fixtures and upkeep of grounds, as required.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on equipment, furniture, mechanical equipment, etc. for facilities, as required.
  • Directs and schedules the work and activities of contractors in the facilities.
  • Ensures maintenance staff perform safety checks on all electrical equipment/personal use items brought into the Facility by residents (i.e. radios, televisions); maintains documentation of work performed.
  • Performs or ensures staff conduct regular building and fire safety inspection audits; documents findings and arranges required follow-up repairs/maintenance.
  • Oversees staff to ensure that staff and facilities comply with regulations stipulated in various codes and legislation that apply to the facilities.
  • Maintains and keeps all preventative maintenance documentation and records.
  • Provides guidance, training, mentoring and coordinates, assigns, schedules and checks the work of assigned staff.
  • Attends at mandatory training programs and in staff in-service training and development programs within the Health Centres and ensures maintenance staff receive suitable training.
  • Acts as Fire Marshall and participates in fire safety/emergency situations as outlined in Facility Policies and Procedures, as required.
  • Oversight of facility and program infrastructure includes but is not limited to: Fire Alarm Systems, Emergency Power Systems, Heating Systems, Ventilation Systems, Cooling Systems, Elevating Equipment, Nurse Call Systems, Residents Lifts, Resident Beds, Electronic Access and Control Systems, Video Surveillance Systems, Kitchen Equipment, Laundry Equipment, Shower Facilities, Grass Cutting, Snow Removal, etc.
  • Regular and rotating on-call duties are a requirement of this position.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Stationary Engineering or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of related technical courses in areas such as plumbing, electrical and gas fitting.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
  • Minimum three (3) years facilities maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of/or direct experience with computerized repair and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Checks (PVSC).
  • Computer skills utilizing MS office software applications and computerized preventative maintenance programs.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, climb and work at high elevations, using a ladder, as required.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer focus, communication, collaboration and personal ownership.
