The Occupational Therapist will apply a collaborative and reasoned approach to enable occupation using a practice process, thinking critically and communicating effectively while focussing on the physical, cognitive, affective and spiritual components of performance as well as the physical, institutional, social, and cultural aspects of the environment. Client groups receiving treatment may include Paediatrics for in home or school services and/or Adults with medical/health concerns. Care will take place within the community within a residential or institutional setting with referrals generated by a variety of sources including government agencies, employers, insurance companies or private payees.ParaMed takes great pride in the safety and well-being of all employees. We provide full access to Personal Protective Equipment as required to ensure both employees and patients are reassured of their safety throughout the delivery of care.Hours: Part-time, flexible hoursLocation: Northern York Region (Sutton, Keswick, etc).QualificationsMasters degree in Occupational Therapy combined with registration/licensing with provincial regulatory college in good standing (i.e. COTO in Ontario)Preferably has a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a practicing Occupational Therapist preferably in a community settingADP authorization preferredWorking knowledge of applicable legislation including Mental Health Act, Substitute Decisions Act, Healthcare Consent Act and othersSuperior oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with clients and families to ensure that barriers to communication do not impact the clients ability to direct their own care processEffective skills in critical thinking and problem solvingKnowledge of applicable community resources available for clients and familiesCurrent certification (within the past 12 mos) of First Aid, CPR, completed within CanadaAble to provide a current, clear Vulnerable Position Screening (VPS)ResponsibilitiesObtains informed consent prior to and throughout service provisionWorking collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team consisting of government agencies, healthcare workers, and other community resourcesanalyzes physical, cultural, social and institutional environmental impact on occupational performance and engagement issuesAnalyzes physical, cultural, social and institutional environmental impact on occupational performance and engagement issuesDevelops client centred plan with client, inter-professional team and other stakeholders and adjusts services to reflect client centred approach related to physical, social, cultural, institutional and economic environmentDemonstrates effective and evidence based problem solving and judgement to address client needsEngages client using a collaborative approach, building rapport and trust, achieving a mutual understanding and agreement related to services to be provided.Participates in necessary care conferences with Health Care teamMaintains the knowledge, skills and attitudes to provide safe, efficient, effective service in all areas of practice by keeping abreast of changes in practice setting that affect scope of practiceMaintains professional client records related to client encounters and plans in compliance with ParaMed’s policies and the standards applied by the regulatory body or Occupational Therapy college.Shows respect for cultural needs, dignity, privacy and confidentiality of clientsDischarges client when service delivery is completeOther duties as assignedCompetenciesIncorporates federal and provincial laws and regulations, national and provincial standards to provide high quality, safe and ethical care to clients/patients i.e. Regulated Health Professionals Act. Assumes professional responsibility, thinks critically, demonstrates practical knowledge, engages in professional development, manages own practice and advocates within system on clients/patients’ behalf
