An international destination with easy access to its binational U.S. neighbour New York State, Niagara attracts over 14 million visitors annually, as well as a steady stream of new residents and businesses.Please note that the Niagara Region requires that all newly hired employees are to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of being hired and provide proof of full vaccination, or provide proof of a bona fide medical or Human Rights Code exemption on a form issued from and approved by Niagara Region.Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARYReceive, place, and record radio and telephone messages to maintain communication within the Region. Call in emergency personnel, in accordance with standard procedures and maintain shift logs and related records. Respond to appropriate alarm systems and call out emergency staff for all departments, as required. Receive complaints from the public and dispatch appropriate personnel to investigate the complaint. Coordinate utility locations for various road projects, upon request.Work directly under the supervision of the Transportation Services Coordinator, with contractors, Region staff, radio users, outside agencies, and Emergency Services to produce an active two-way radio system and an efficient Communications centre.QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION

  • Completion of Grade 12 minimum with training in computer software and programming.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 6 months to one year of experience in a Communications Centre.
  • Must have working knowledge of Industry Canada regulations, various VHF Radio Equipment and Radio Communications Centre Operation.
  • Must have working knowledge of computers and industry standard computer applications and software.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the Maintenance Management System (MMS) program.
  • Must possess knowledge of Regional roads and facilities.
  • General knowledge of Regional operations related to roads, Water and Wastewater and facilities.
SKILLS
  • Professional customer service skills and a positive attitude are required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to respond to the diverse needs of internal and external customers in a fast-paced and challenging environment is essential.
  • Must possess strong verbal communication skills and be able to accurately place and receive radio and telephone messages.
  • Must possess proficient written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively via e-mail.
  • Must demonstrate teamwork, open communication, excellence in service, integrity, accountability.
  • Time management and organizational skills, with ability to manage and reprioritize work with demands, interruptions/ distractions under tight timelines.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills, utilizing available tools/resources to assist customers with inquiries.
