Job Description

Applications are invited for the position of Communications Coordinator in the Corporate Communications Division, at the Niagara Corporate Business Centre located next to the Daniel J. Patterson Campus. The starting hourly rate is $30.87. The salary range is $30.87 /hr to $35.77 /hr (Pay Band G) for a 35 hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary.Reporting to the Director, Communications, the successful candidate supports the Corporate Communications department through the daily management of the college news items via the department’s communications channels, including the news website, encore, email and the college portals.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Daily media monitoring via the department’s online media monitoring service, posting and archiving media coverage
  • Providing administrative support to the Director and department including acting as the first point of contact for internal and stakeholders
  • Conducting research and collating data into reports, monitoring departmental budgets
  • Acting as a contact for media when required, and work with the Director and Consultants in assessing media inquiries, the preparation of media materials and execution of media events
  • Supporting the planning of media events, including space bookings, guest lists, logistics, the preparation of materials and coordination with other departments
  • Providing photography and video support as required
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of three (3) year diploma/degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, English, Business, Marketing or similar field of study
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in a communications or public relations role
  • Demonstrated ability to use web CMS, including WordPress
  • Strong knowledge and familiarity with communication technologies and channels, including digital and social media
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing along with proofreading skills
  • Proficiency of principles, practices and techniques relating to public and media relations, communication and informational programs as they relate to educational institutions and organizations
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects
  • Photography and video skills are considered an asset
