This is an excellent learning opportunity for a student enrolled in the Construction Engineering Technology program at Niagara College.Location: Although based out of the Niagara Region headquarters, located at 1815 Sir Isaac Brock Way (Thorold), students will participate in a number of field assignments throughout the region. As a result, a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required and a G class license is preferred.Duration: May – August 2022, plus the Construction Engineering Technology program’s required Field Placement (term 6) in 2022.Hours of work: May – August 2022: Monday to Friday 8:30 – 4:30 (35 hours/week)Hourly Rate: $16.73 – $19.52Job DescriptionThe Transportation division is responsible for building and maintaining more than 750 km of roads in the Niagara Region. The Construction Inspection Student will perform approximately 50% office and 50% field duties.Field assignments will consist of assisting Construction Inspectors with inspecting work and materials to ensure specifications are met, as well as attend site meetings. The student will also assist with measuring and recording quantities of work to be undertaken by the contractor on a time and material basis, various calculations to determine areas, volumes, volume conversion to weight, and construction costs and reviewing construction layout. The student will also maintain daily project logs/diaries.Office assignments will primarily consist of the organizing and filing tender documents, scanning drawings and may include AutoCAD and minor drafting work. General construction administration office procedures and duties will also be trained and utilized in this position.EDUCATION
