If you are currently working towards becoming an Early Childhood Educator, then this would be a perfect opportunity to gain some amazing experience. In addition, the Region recognizes the value of having flexible work arrangements to support better work-life balance for our employees.Temporary DurationApproximate Duration 18 months, expected to start in September 2022Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARYUnder the supervision of the Supervisor, Child Care Centre, the Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) will support the Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) with their tasks and role. This position assists the RECE(s) with planning, implementing, documenting, and assessing child-centered, inquiry and play-based learning experiences for children between 0 to 12 years of age. Supports and assists with the creation and maintenance of a child care environment that supports children’s play and learning as well as contributes to a sense of belonging and overall well-being. Responsible to build caring and responsive relationships with children, families and colleagues. Ensure compliance with Regional, Children’s Services policies, and Child Care and Early Years Act 2014 (CCEYA) Legislation and regulations.QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an Early Childhood Assistant program as required by the Child Care and Early Years Act/applicable regulations (preferred), or, currently enrolled and will be completed within 2 months of being hired.
  • Must be willing and able to enroll in in an approved Early Childhood Education diploma program, or, complete the equivalency process through the College of Early Childhood Educators registration and complete it within 18 months
  • Current Safe Food Handlers Certification an asset
  • Additional training or education related to the position is an asset
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of three months’ experience working with children between 0 to 12 years of age
  • Working knowledge of research-based best practice methods, principles, and practices in Early Childhood Education
  • Knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 and Regulations and changes in legislation and policies
  • Knowledge of the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)Codes of Ethics and Standards of Practice July 2017
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively working with a diverse groups of individuals.
  • Basic knowledge regarding child development
  • Experience working with children with special needs an asset
SKILLS
  • Human relations skills to establish, develop, and maintain positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues
  • Ability to document child interactions/learnings, assist in identifying developmental milestones, and reflection skills through the lenses of both the child and ECA.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, observation, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and administrative skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain factual, concise, and objective documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member with other professionals
  • Ability to follow procedures and instructions from Supervisor and ECE team member(s) with accuracy
  • Demonstrated skills in computer applications (e.g., internet, email, MS Word, iPad)
  • With guidance, ability to implement legislation and regulations required for licensing requirements
  • Ability to exercise tact confidentiality, good judgement, and courtesy when dealing with sensitive issues
  • Willingness and ability to learn
  • Fluency in French (both written and verbal) and in additional languages (e.g. Spanish, etc.) beyond English, which are spoken within a significant proportion of the population in the local community and in the opinion of the Corporation could enhance service, is an asset
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must complete an approved Early Childhood Educator (ECE) diploma program, or, complete the required equivalency process through the College of Early Childhood Educators registration within 18 months of starting the position.
    • This program is a minimum 18 month commitment to complete. A position as an ECE is not guaranteed upon completion of the program.
  • In accordance with the Corporate Policy and applicable Legislation/Regulation(s), the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Records Check and submit a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check, as well as complete any subsequent declaration or check as required by legislation/Act, regulation, and/or policy
  • Must maintain valid certificates in Infant & Child Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (C ) and Standard First Aid and any other certifications required by the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 and regulations
  • Must meet and maintain requirements in the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014
  • Health assessment and proof of current records of immunizations as recommended by the Medical Officer of Health
  • Commitment to responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of children, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
  • Access to reliable transportation to travel to Child Care Centres
  • In order to maximize training and ensure coverage, the location of the position may change or be rotated amongst any of the Region’s Child Care Centres
  • Good attendance record
