Please note that the Niagara Region requires that all newly hired employees are to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of being hired and provide proof of full vaccination, or provide proof of a bona fide medical or Human Rights Code exemption on a form issued from and approved by Niagara Region.Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARYUnder the supervision of registered nursing staff, assist with the care of residents in the long-term care homes in accordance with the philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures of Senior Services. Report observations and all signs and symptoms of change in a resident (emotional, physical and cognitive) to registered staff. Perform and collaborates as a member of the interdisciplinary team in accordance with the Long-Term Care Homes Act and the Roles and Responsibilities document.EDUCATION
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Certificate from an approved Personal Support Worker (PSW) Course or a minimum of one year of successful completion of a recognized Registered Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse program, if currently enrolled.
  • Training in Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of one month of current (within the last 3 years) experience in a long term care setting.
  • Knowledge of resident/client safety issues and demonstrated capacity to apply resident/client safety practices.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must Good attendance record
  • Physically and mentally capable of performing the duties of the job and have an excellent rapport with residents.
  • Must be able and available to work all shifts, weekends, and statutory holidays, as required.
  • In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate including a vulnerable sector search.
Shift InformationThis position will require availability for all shifts (day, evening, night) including weekends and holidays. You must be willing and able to work up to 24 hours per week and declare a minimum availability of 32 hours per week.Other ConditionsSuccessful applicants will have one primary home location and also have the opportunity to work in our other long term care facilities listed below:

  • Rapelje Lodge - Welland
  • Woodlands of Sunset - Welland
  • Linhaven - St.Catharines
  • Upper Canada Lodge - Niagara on the lake
  • Deer Park Villa - Grimsby
  • Meadows of Dorchester - Niagara Falls
Conditions of offer include:
  • obtaining a vulnerable sector police clearance that is less than 6 months old from date of hire
  • satisfactory completion of Mantoux Baseline 1 and 2 Clearance (or chest x-ray)
  • presenting educational qualifications - completion of High School and Personal Support Worker program OR be a student who is enrolled in an educational program for Registered Nurses (RN) or Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) in Canada
  • satisfactory completion of a physical assessment
In order to be employed in our seniors division or any long term care facility, you must possess a current vulnerable sector police clearance that is less than 6 months old.
