An international destination with easy access to its binational U.S. neighbour New York State, Niagara attracts over 14 million visitors annually, as well as a steady stream of new residents and businesses.Please note that the Niagara Region requires that all newly hired employees are to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of being hired and provide proof of full vaccination, or provide proof of a bona fide medical or Human Rights Code exemption on a form issued from and approved by Niagara Region.Job DescriptionJob SummarySalary Pending ReviewReporting to the Community Resource Programs Manager, the Housing Initiatives Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of communication plans and materials, researching and developing policies, researching and preparing reports on housing initiatives and best practices and managing special events. Outcomes include communications that are clear, current and customized for specific audiences to keep stakeholders informed and engaged, policies that are updated and provide guidance and housing initiatives that are well-informed and innovative.Education

  • University Degree in Social Sciences, Public/Business Administration, communication or related degree
Knowledge
  • At least 5 years’ experience in communications, policy development and/or research initiatives
  • Knowledge of the Housing Services Act 2011 and Residential Tenancies Act 2006
  • Demonstrated superior analytical and writing skills
  • Strong knowledge of government processes
  • Understanding of affordable housing and issues and best practices
  • Bilingual French and English and French is considered an asset
ResponsibilitiesCommunications
  • Develop communication and promotional materials (ex. tenant newsletters, tenant handbook, Quarterly Reports, Fact Sheets, etc.)
  • Review website content on a regular basis to ensure information is current, accessible and accurate; coordinate and develop new content; manage web refresh
  • Develop communication plans and identify opportunities to enhance communication and make recommendations of the most effective methods and time frames of presenting information and reaching specific audiences
  • Writing and/or editing media releases, reports, presentations and speeches for Board Chair, CEO etc.
Policy Review and Development
  • Consult with staff and stakeholders, conduct background research and review best practices
  • Make recommendations for policies and policy reports for Board and Divisional Leadership Team
Housing Initiatives Research and Analysis
  • Research and prepare reports on housing issues and solutions for Divisional Leadership Team and NRH Board
  • Conduct primary research including surveys, interviews, questionnaires etc.
  • Conduct secondary research including environmental scans, literature reviews, inventory of best practices
  • Review and analyze legislation, historical and current statistics and approaches relevant to housing
Special Events on ad hoc basis
  • Develop strategies to maximize stakeholder engagement and minimize negative perceptions of affordable housing (ex. NIMBYism etc.)
  • Manage special events (public consultations, groundbreakings, grand openings etc.)
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with external and internal stakeholders
Special Requirements
  • Must maintain ability to travel in a timely manner to other offices, work locations or sites as authorized for business reasons
  • In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate.
  • May be required to support emergency operations under the incident management structure, at the direction of the Emergency Operations Centre Director.
