Job Description

Located in the heart of the Niagara Region – just minutes from one of the world’s most well-known tourism destinations – Niagara College offers more than 130 innovative programs between our campuses in Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake. Since opening its doors in 1967, Niagara College has grown to become a leader in education and training and one of the most enterprising colleges in Canada.Applications are invited for the position of Placement Officer in the School of Community Services, located at Welland Campus. The starting hourly rate is $33.38/hr (Pay Band H - $33.38/hr to $38.75/hr) for a 35 hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary. This is an Appendix D, temporary position as per Article 17.3.1 of the Support Staff Collective Agreement and is set to commence in January 2023 and will conclude in June 2024. It may be subject to an extension by mutual agreement of the parties.Reporting to the Associate Dean, School of Community Services, the successful candidate in collaboration with the Associate Dean sets up, organizes, implements placements for the Social Service Worker Program. They act as a resource for students, placement agencies, and faculty, to support the completion of the field experience portion of this program. They work collaboratively with related college departments and community partners to achieve this goal.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Build, foster and maintain professional relationships with students, staff and community partners
  • Conduct field placement visits, virtual meetings, mentoring and supporting students
  • Resolve placement agency and/or student issues and concerns
  • Prepare written summaries of students’ performance
  • Participate in program recruitment and promotional events
Qualifications:
  • Two (2) year Social Service Worker diploma or similar field of study
  • Minimum five (5) years experience as a social service worker practitioner
  • Knowledge of Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice related to the Social Service Worker (OCSWSSW) program
  • Familiarity of social service worker practitioner practice standards
  • Working knowledge of office systems and various software
