DivisionLong Term Care HomesTemporary DurationApproximate Duration: UnknownJob DescriptionJOB SUMMARYAs part of the interdisciplinary team at the T. Roy Adams Regional Centre for Dementia Care, responsible to develop, coordinate, implement, promote, and evaluate a diversified program of recreational activities for residents/ clients based on and responsive to their abilities, strengths, needs, interests, and former lifestyles.QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION

  • College Diploma in Recreation, completed courses in special populations and therapeutic recreation.
  • Certificate in Dementia Care (or equivalent certificate course) from a recognized Community College.
  • Valid First Aid certification
  • Montessori or Dementiability, GPA, PIECES training preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum of 6 to 9 months current experience in the recreation field working with dementia populations, preferably in a long-term care or community geriatric setting.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Knowledge of resident/client safety issues and demonstrated capacity to apply resident/client safety practices.
SKILLS
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent theoretical knowledge and practiced skills in dementia care.
  • Demonstrated communication skills.
  • A systems approach to client/family centred care.
  • Knowledge of Montessori philosophy & activities.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skill e.g. Word, Outlook.
  • Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and development.
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility and ability to cope with change.
  • Commitment to client/family centred care and compassion for the client/family population being served.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Good attendance record.
  • Physically and mentally capable of performing the duties of the job and have an excellent rapport with elderly people.
  • A strong background in long-term care, community consultation and geriatric mental health.
  • Valid first aide certificate.
  • In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate – Condition of Employment.
