An international destination with easy access to its binational U.S. neighbour New York State, Niagara attracts over 14 million visitors annually, as well as a steady stream of new residents and businesses.Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARYNiagara Region is looking to hire a Transit Services Student from May to August, 2021 to assist in the preparation of on-demand services and to provide administrative support with respect to all transit services. This position will involve tasks relating to the gathering/analyzing of transit data, participation in public and stakeholder engagement, as well as the processing of applications to allow streamlined access to Niagara’s transit services. The success of the on-demand service will play a significant role in supporting decisions related to transit services, and infrastructure investments resulting from an ongoing transit governance review.The student will be responsible for:Engaging with the public relating to deployment of the new on-demand service.Assisting staff in developing a work plan to bring each transit stop into compliance with provincial legislation and the new guidelines.Assisting staff with respect to work plan items resulting from the IMT Working Group and/or the Transit Governance Study. May also support staff working with Metrolinx and GO Transit related deliverables.Collecting, reviewing, verifying and entering information into a database; performing data analysis and evaluation to produce reports.Providing administrative support and assist with outreach activities (e.g. speaking with the public/doing presentations to educate/generate awareness).Providing customer service assistance by responding to public and/or internal inquiries.Process applications as laid out in Niagara Specialized Transit (NST) policies and procedures; maintaining confidentiality of information in application forms.Engages and informs the public about transit services and activities.Students may visit transit stops and hubs throughout Niagara to conduct in-person interviews with transit users, therefore the applicant should be outgoing and confident in a variety of environments.Location - Students will report to Niagara Regional Headquarters (1815 Sir Isaac Brock Way) throughout the work week, however, daily travel will be required within Niagara region. Incumbent must supply own reliable method of transportation (i.e. bus pass or personal vehicle), and be able to work both outdoors and in an office setting. It is possible that due to COVID-19, the student may be required to work from home some, or all of the time. Thus students must have access to a reliable internet and a quiet workspace.Hours and duration of work: A standard work week is 35 hours, Monday to Friday, May to August, 2020. Typical office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, however, on some occasions it will be necessary to shift the start and/or end times to ensure a wide cross-section of transit user can be surveyed.EDUCATION
