Job Description

The Merchandiser Trainee Program facilitates the recruitment, selection and professional development of persons employed to support the merchandising operations of Bunge Canada with in the crush plant office as well as various plant operations located in Western Canada with travel to St Louis. The candidate will gain both experience and knowledge in various positions including and not limited to training in Hedging/Basic Grain Trading, Plant Operations, Crushing/Refining Operations, Accounting, Grain Procurement, Merchandiser training, etc.Core Functions:

  • Trainees will receive exposure to crushing activities and general plant operations.
  • Trainees will rotate through several key operating departments and key locations.
  • It is anticipated that trainees will participate in Kaizen productivity events each of year of their participation in the program.
  • Participants will have the opportunity to receive exposure to programs and procedures supporting product quality and food safety. In doing so, the trainees will participate in at least one site quality audit and AIB audit.
  • At the direction of Bunge management, trainees will receive exposure to budgeting process, contract management and grain accounting.
  • The merchandising staff in the local office will provide a more in-depth understanding of the Company #39;s merchandising activities, including sales and marketing of Bunge #39;s products and customer development and relations.
  • Trainees will receive exposure to various trading desks and commodities handled at each location.
  • Participants will also receive exposure to the U.S. trading operations and will have an opportunity to contribute by conducting research, preparing and presenting reports of their findings to senior management.
  • Participants will work with the various commodity sales and marketing groups.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Skill/Experience Requirements:
  • New college or university graduates with a degree in commerce, finance, accounting or a related field or prior work experience in commodity training or agribusiness is preferred.
  • Flexibility in accepting job and work assignments.
  • Willingness to relocate frequently at the request of the Company to any of the following facilities: Fort Saskatchewan, AB; Nipawin, SK; Harrowby, MB, Altona, MB and St Louis, MO. Throughout the duration of the Merchandiser Trainee Program the trainee will relocate to various Bunge locations.
  • Ability to travel without restriction to other countries.
  • Willingness to travel to other Bunge facilities.
  • Ability to understand and build knowledge of futures market and agricultural economics.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • General level of competence in standard computer software Outlook and Excel.
  • Ability to work in a team and general office environment.
  • Demonstrated organization and planning capabilities and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and conflicting objectives.
  • Cross-border mobility.
