Deputy Sheriff - Court Security - COU001142Employment Type: Expression of Interest for SGEU Term less than 9 monthsLocation(s): SK-North West-North BattlefordMinistry: 003 JusticeSalary Range: $23.634 - $31.990 HourlyGrade: commensurate with qualificationsDeputy Sheriffs provide security services as assigned within the Courts of Saskatchewan to ensure a safe and secure environment for all users of court facilities. This includes secure prisoner transport, the operation of detention areas within court facilities, conducting perimeter screening in accordance with The Court Security Act, 2007, the maintenance of good order in all areas of court facilities, and the assessment and management of threats to courts and court participants. The duties performed by the Deputy Sheriffs of Court Security are an integral component of the administration of the court and in achieving the goals and objectives of the Court Services Branch.Deputy Sheriffs provide and maintain a safe and secure setting for all persons within a court location, including security in the courtroom and holding cells. They are responsible for the safe and timely transportation of persons to and from a court location (e.g., correctional centres, RCMP detachments, municipal police agencies, etc.). They are also responsible for ensuring documents are accurate for persons being released and/or held in custody and information is kept confidential at all times. Deputy Sheriffs may be required to be away from their headquarters periodically for extended periods of time for transportation, court security and training.As Peace Officers, Deputy Sheriffs operate under the Criminal Code of Canada, The Court Officials Act, 2012, and The Court Security Act, 2007. They are armed with force option tools and may be required to use necessary force while performing their duties to protect people from harm.The Level 06 Deputy Sheriff Trainee position is established as a direct feeder group to the full working Level 07 Deputy Sheriff position.Prior to being hired as a Deputy Sheriff Trainee (Level 06), a candidate will be required to:Successfully pass the Sheriff Officer Physical Abilities Test (SOPAT) with an elapsed time of four (4) minutes and 45 seconds (4:45) or less;For more information on Sheriff Officer Physical Abilities Test: https://www.uregina.ca/kinesiology/dpsc/occupational-testing/pre-employment/sopat-testing.html (Testing is typically done in Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert)Video: https://www.youtube.com/watchv=N-yb9oUSgx4SOPAT is comprised of the POPAT components excluding the 6-foot mat leapSuccessfully pass an interview where you will be asked to:Produce a valid certificate in Standard First Aid/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Level C;Produce a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 drivers licence;Produce a driver’s abstract obtained within the previous three months which demonstrates a safe and responsible driving record;Have a satisfactory assessment based on the Minnesota Multi-phasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2); andHave a satisfactory criminal records check in accordance with the Government of Saskatchewan Criminal Records Check Policy.Within 12 months of being appointed to a Deputy Sheriff Trainee (Level 06) position, employees will be required to:Produce a valid certificate in self-defense training equivalent to the standard of Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT);Be authorized under The Police Act, 1990 to carry a firearm as identified in the Saskatchewan Police College Firearms Training Manual; andSuccessfully complete the Deputy Sheriff Recruit Training (DSRT).Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position are obtained through relevant work experience in the justice system, law enforcement, court/legal-related environments and may be combined with education such as a Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in police science, criminal justice, human justice or other human science programs, a certificate from a Correctional Studies program, an Aboriginal Police Preparations Course, Treaty Four Citizens Police Academy, Police Preparation Course, a Private Investigator Licensing Course and other equivalent course or training.Note: Successful candidates who meet all the requirements will be appointed at the full working level.To learn more about the Ministry of Justice, please visit the attached link: https://www.saskatchewan.ca/government/government-structure/ministries/justice#programs-and-servicesPreference will be given to qualified equity group members who self-declare in this online application, as identified in "diversity groups" belowDiversity Groups: Aboriginal persons, Persons with disabilities, Visible minority persons, Women in management or a non-traditional roleHours of Work: B - SGEU Field 37.33 - work a total of 37.33 hours/week, averaged over 4 weeksCriminal Record Check Requirement: The successful candidate shall be subject to a Criminal Record Check as a condition of employmentNumber of Openings: 2Closing Date: Oct 4, 2021, 12:59:00 AMQuick Apply
