Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. You can contribute to that success while building your career.Nature and ScopeThe Facilitator serves a primary role in planning and facilitating Essential Skills for the Workplace Program (ESWP) Early Childhood Education (ECE) Level 1 to ensure successful outcomes within the Adult Basic Education (ABE) department. As an employee of SIIT, positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIITs vision, mission and mandate.General AccountabilityThe Facilitator will be responsible for developing, coordinating, delivering and facilitating all program components for lower literacy adult learners. The goal of the program is to assist lower literacy adult learners build essential skills and knowledge of the transferability of those skills to future employment experiences and career choices in Early Childhood Education. The Facilitator delivers programming while creating an environment that guides and ensures each client is successful. The Facilitator keeps current with developments in subject areas, resources and methods, and make relevant changes to plans and activities to suit the individual needs of their clients.Specific AccountabilitiesThe Facilitator will be responsible for delivering a specific program according to the needs of the community, funding agency or employer. Working collaboratively with ABE department staff and community contacts, the facilitator demonstrates a strong commitment to create and maintain a creative and positive learning environment and experience for participants. The position includes the following broad range of accountabilities:Facilitation and AdministrationPlan and develop lesson plans in communications, numeracy, and other essential skills essential skills using benchmarks contained in the Circle of LearningInstruct three Early Childhood Education Level 1 courses: Communicating with Children and Guiding Childrens Behaviour, Introduction to Pay, Health, Safety and NutritionPrepare lesson plans and appropriate delivery methods, following the curricular outcomes providedAdhere to and promote SIIT policies and proceduresClient SuccessRespect, honour and acknowledge the uniqueness of each participant including: their unique languages, cultures, traditions, histories, as well as, prior learning and life experiencesCreate and maintain a creative and positive learning environment that provides the opportunity for meaningful learning and skill developmentDevelop and maintain respectful relations through the use of problem solving and constructive resolution of client issues, and if necessary, recommend action to applicable supervisor regarding participant behaviorEnsure a positive, diverse, inclusive work and learning environmentPartnering & Relationship BuildingNetwork and build relationships with appropriate employment agencies, networks and employers in the communityDevelop a familiarity with the labour market in the regionLink participants to work placements or volunteer opportunitiesRequired Qualifications and ExperienceA two-year post-secondary diploma in Education, Social Services, Business Administration, or Project Planning. Two (2) years of related experience in Facilitating or teaching and experience and knowledge of local and provincial labour markets, educational institutes and community resources. Experience in assessing and counseling First Nation adults is considered an asset. Experience working with Microsoft Office suite of programs is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations would be an asset.
