Job Description

Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has been conferred authority to grant certificates and diplomas. SIIT welcomes over 2400 students into our urban and community programs annually as well as serving over 6000 clients through our nine Career Centres across the province. The Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies is playing a significant role in Saskatchewans economic future. You can contribute to that success while building your career.The Facilitator serves a primary role in planning and facilitating Essential Skills for the Workplace Program (ESWP) Early Childhood Education (ECE) Level 1 to ensure successful outcomes within the Adult Basic Education (ABE) department. As an employee of SIIT, positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIITs vision, mission and mandate.The Facilitator will be responsible for developing, coordinating, delivering and facilitating all program components for adult learners. The goal of the program is to assist adult learners to build essential skills and knowledge of the transferability of those skills to future employment experiences and career choices in Early Childhood Education. The Facilitator delivers programming while creating an environment that guides and ensures each client is successful. The Facilitator keeps current with developments in subject areas, resources and methods, and makes relevant changes to plans and activities to suit the individual needs of their clients. The position includes the following broad range of accountabilities:

  • Plan and develop lesson plans in Communications, Numeracy, and other essential skills using the Circle of Learning benchmarks
  • Instruct three Early Childhood Education Level 1 Post-Secondary courses: Communicating with Children and Guiding Childrens Behaviour, Introduction to Play, and Health, Safety and Nutrition
  • Prepare lesson plans and appropriate delivery methods, following the curricular outcomes provided
  • Prepare students to enter the workforce in Early Childhood Education and guide them to completing a 60-hour work placement component
  • Adhere to and promote SIIT policies and procedures
  • Respect, honour and acknowledge the uniqueness of each participant including: their unique languages, cultures, traditions, histories, as well as, prior learning and life experiences
  • Create and maintain a creative and positive learning environment that provides the opportunity for meaningful learning and skill development
  • Network and build relationships with appropriate employment agencies, networks and employers in the community
  • Develop a familiarity with the labour market in the region
  • Link participants to work placements or volunteer opportunities
Required Qualifications and Experience: A Bachelor of Education or two-year post-secondary diploma in Education, Social Services, Business Administration, or Project Planning. Two (2) years of related experience in Facilitating or teaching and experience and knowledge of local and provincial labour markets, educational institutes and community resources. An understanding of adult learning theories and principles is considered an asset. Experience in assessing First Nation adults is considered an asset. Experience working with Microsoft Office suite and programs is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations would be an asset.
