Job Description

The Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for providing technical and administrative support to the Tecvalco Health and Safety team. Their main duty is to ensure that the company is in compliance with and adheres to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines to reduce work-related injuries. This position is considered entry level within the Health and Safety Team.Key Responsibilities include:

  • Support a company that embraces a commitment to safety excellence by consistently demonstrating a positive safety attitude and leading by example
  • Provide occupational health and safety support and guidance for the day to day activities and functions within the manufacturing facilities
  • Keep records of all safety related issues and facilitates weekly and monthly health and safety documentation to the H&S Manager
  • Administrative and filing support
  • Participate in Health and Safety Inspections, making recommendations to improve health and safety standards
  • Participate in incident investigations, including root cause analysis, and making recommendations to H&S Team to eliminate or control future risk
  • Assist in monthly safety meetings
  • Conduct Risk Assessments
  • Monitor and observe all workers to ensure they are adhering to safe work practices and procedures, intervening when necessary to correct unsafe practices and behaviors
  • Identify and educate workers on safety standards and expectations as well as safe machinery operation
  • Support workplace Occupational Health Committees
  • Coordinate Health and Safety events such as emergency fire drills
  • Stay current on compliance requirements, industry best practices, trends and upcoming changes; recommend changes or modifications to existing policies and programs to remain in compliance; and adopt best practices where feasible
  • Participate in health and safety courses, programs, webinars, etc. to improve safety knowledge
  • Assist with the orientation/onboarding of new hires and the training of all employees and contractors where needed
  • Provide support to the Health and Safety Team in various tasks as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Completion of a certificate in Occupational Health and Safety would be considered an asset, or minimum 1 year experience related to Health and Safety
  • Knowledge of WHMIS would be an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate would be an asset
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of manufacturing environments is an asset

  • Must have clean class 5 drivers license to travel to work sites

  • AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)
Experience:
