Our intentional culture promotes trust and participation, encouraging you to bring your heart and mind to work every day.In-ScopeTemporary Length of Term: 6-monthsGENERAL ACCOUNTABILITYThe Salvage Transportation Operator is responsible for transporting parts, vehicles and salvage property through the operation and maintenance of single unit trucks, tow trucks, and semi-trailers.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIESNote: This section is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities – other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Schedules the transport of vehicles within region of responsibility. Plans the route that is the most cost and time effective.
  • Transports parts, vehicles and salvage property from the storage locations to SGI Salvage locations.
  • Transports salvage property to locations and completes necessary documentation such as transit forms, record stock numbers for inventory.
  • Delivers, loads and unloads the cargo (parts, vehicles and salvage property), using large forklift or other power mobile equipment if necessary.
  • Maintains truck and equipment in a safe, clean state, operating it in a safe and professional manner, identifies and performs minor service, maintenance and repairs.
  • Performs inspection on the damaged vehicle or property to make sure that it can be safely loaded and towed. If required, removes, bends, or cuts parts of damaged vehicles or property prior to towing.
  • Performs necessary documentation, timely and accurately, according to procedures in effect, including pre safety inspections and maintaining accurate driving records in appropriate log books.
  • Abides by all Traffic Safety Act rules and regulations, including load security.
  • Arranges, negotiates, and hires sub-contractors to aid in vehicle pickup (when required).
  • Inspects salvage vehicles or cargo to ensure that VIN number, damages and condition match the claim file information and advises the Senior Parts Technician or Manager of any discrepancies.
  • Maintains relationship with the external business partners (body shops & storage compounds)
  • Discusses and explains parts, vehicles and salvage property to clients upon delivery as required.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Knowledge of the Saskatchewan Truckers’ Guide and the Saskatchewan Professional Drivers Handbook.
  • Skill in the safe operation of a tow truck and/or semi-trailer and tractor unit.
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle construction, repair and mechanical operations.
  • Skill in calculating weight load requirements.
  • Knowledge to identify and perform minor service, maintenance and running repairs on assigned vehicles
  • Knowledge of requirements for vehicle inspections and standards.
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
  • Grade 12/GED
  • Two I-CAR courses in the Auto Physical Damage.
  • The Power Mobile Equipment/Forklift Certification.
  • Possession of a valid class 1 driver’s licence with an Air Brake Endorsement.
EXPERIENCE
  • 1 - 3 years’ directly related experience.
