To view all of our current vacancies, please go to https://jobs.nshealth.ca/ResponsibilitiesUtility Worker (all locations)Reporting to the Nutrition & Food Service Supervisors and Manager, Nutrition & Food Services, the Utility Worker performs basic, routine duties related to the assembly and service of food for patients and cafeteria clientele *Grade 12 or equivalent required, Food Safety Course required, or willing to take upon hireResponsibilities include:

  • Delivering patient menus, trays and nourishments
  • Communicating with supervisory staff and Dietitians regarding patient food preferences/intolerances/menu issues
  • Operating and cleaning dishwasher, food slicer and other equipment as required within the department
  • Washing dishes, and pots, pans as required
  • Stocking pantry areas on nursing units with nourishments
  • Performing extra cleaning within the department, stocks and cleans storeroom, refrigerators and other areas
  • Portioning some menu items
  • Performing other duties as required
Responsibilities ContinuedDietary Aide (Eastern Memorial Hospital)Reporting to the Food Service Supervisor and Manager of Nutrition and Food, the Dietary Aide is to perform duties related to the assembly and safe service of food to patients, staff, visitors and nursing home residents, and all other duties assigned by the Food Service Supervisor. *Grade 12 or equivalent required, Food Safety Course required, or willing to take upon hireRoutine job functions include but are not limited to the following:
  • Prepares and delivers patient trays and nourishments according to the therapeutic diet order
  • Prepare distributes and collect all aspect of meal tickets including collection of monies
  • Assists with preparing food carts
  • Portioning some menu items
  • Scrapes, rinses, and washes the dishes
  • Responsible for the proper storage of food and paper cleaning supplies
  • Keeps kitchen and manor dining room clean and sanitary
  • Empties and cleans garbage cans in kitchen
  • Keeps work area clean and sanitary at all times
  • Assists in the orientation of new personnel
  • Must carry out all job functions in accordance with safe working practices, including proper use of appropriate
safety equipment and the reporting of unsafe conditions to the supervisor
  • Continually endeavors to improve service to the patient. Provide at all times safe, courteous care. Having respect
and consideration for co-workers and families as well as the patients
  • Confidentiality must be maintained at all times
  • Any other duties that may be assigned as they become necessary to the operation of the hospital
  • Annually access the training and education of patient, client and personal safety made available by NSHA
  • Commit to maintain and protect patient, client and personal safety on an ongoing basis
