Job Description

Syl Apps Youth Centre (Syl Apps) is a secure youth mental health facility in Oakville that can provide support for up to 48 youth at a time. Syl Apps operates three programs: (1) Secure treatment (mandated by the Child & Family Services Act—CFSA) (males and females) ; (2) Secure detention and custody (mandated by the Youth Criminal Justice Act—YCJA) (males and females); and (3) It is also the only facility in Ontario designated to accept youth by order of the Ontario Review Board. We are committed to providing a range of services and a high standard of care for young people and their families.Job Summary:Reporting to the Business Manager, the Cook will assist in the preparation and distribution of meals and snacks to the residential units.Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and deliver meals to the residential program units.
  • Assist with preparation of meals as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness of main kitchen area.
  • Ensure security of all cutlery and cooking utensils while serving.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum High School Graduate.
  • Two years’ experience with cooking, cleaning and sanitation procedures for large kitchens and equipment preferred.
  • Current Food Handling Certificate.
  • Knowledge of volume food preparation.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job.
  • Creativity with recipes and menus to prepare meals for adolescents.
  • Experience in a secure residential setting would be considered an asset.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including a Vulnerable Sector Screening) and Pre-Employment Medical.
  • Candidates Bilingual in English and French will be given special consideration.
