Job Description

We are seeking a Manager, Corporate Development to join our team in Oakville, Ontario! The Manager, Corporate Development will be responsible for supporting inorganic growth through involvement in the assessment and project management of opportunities including, but not limited to; acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, partnerships and capital projects. This role will also be involved in corporate financial modeling, strategic planning initiatives and integration project management as needed.Here is some of what we have to offer:

This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to work in a fast-paced team and play an important role in the sustainable long-term growth of the business.RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide guidance to business units in regards to creating business cases for investment opportunities requiring significant capital expenditure
  • Work with leadership (operational and financial) roles at Samuel operating units to understand the financial dynamics of the opportunity
  • Develop a project plan / timeline
  • Develop a financial model that reflects the opportunity
  • Provide guidance regarding the proposed investment in the opportunity
  • Research inorganic growth opportunities
  • Prioritize acquisition prospects based on corporate and business unit strategies, macro economic factors, market dynamics, competitive position and likely synergies
  • Make recommendations to Business Unit Leaders and the Management Committee whether or not to pursue the opportunity
  • Lead and project manage all stages of due diligence investigations determining where to focus and what level of investigation is required
  • Communicate with stakeholders at identified opportunities to gather information
  • Manage internal due diligence teams
  • Manage external service providers (as required)
  • Identify areas of risk and opportunity
  • Create financial models for the valuation and analysis purposes
  • Create robust financial models of the ongoing business and forecast future financial performance
  • Draft Business Cases for presentation to the Management Committee and the Investment Committee of the board
  • Participate in planning for and completion of closing and integration of acquired companies
  • Project manager for integration activities
  • Network with business brokers / investment bankers in Canada and the US, when required
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Successful completion of Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as business, finance, engineering, statistics, economics, accounting, etc.
  • Post-graduation qualifications; MBA or CFA or CBV or CPA
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products; expertise with Excel and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with business accounting & finance
  • Ability to deliver complex cross-enterprise projects with multiple stakeholders at both senior and junior levels
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor, attention to detail and ability to develop sophisticated financial models (multi-scenario, DCF, sensitivity analysis)
  • Strong work ethic, proactively manages multiple high priority projects and works effectively in a team
  • Demonstrates versatility to complete ad hoc requests and projects under tight time constraints and deadlines
  • Personal presence and ability to clearly communicate compelling messages to senior executives
  • Self-starter, results-focused, collaborative, diplomatic, and flexible
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate with diplomacy and tact
  • Transaction experience, ideally in the industrial space
  • Capacity and desire to pay attention to detail while remaining fully aware of and understanding the “larger picture
  • Creative and proactive approach to problem-solving and actively seeks innovative solutions to problems
  • Strong decision-making capability and excellent time management skills
  • Advanced analytical skills / data analysis capabilities and the ability to draw conclusions and defend them based on information available
  • Strong research skills to uncover industry trends and develop keen understanding of the competitive landscape
  • A resourceful team-player with an ability to work effectively independently
  • International work experience or exposure to working in an international company would be viewed favorably
