Job Description

SUMMARY:Reporting to the Senior Manager, Environmental Health & Safety and part of the environmental, health and safety team, the successful candidate’s primary focus will be on ensuring the company’s continued commitment to health, safety and environmental excellence.Work Type: OnsitePRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide Environmental Health & Safety site level support and work with department Managers, supervisors, and employees on the implementation of directives, policies, and standards
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate EH&S policies and practices in line with regulations and corporate requirements
  • Coordinate site efforts to develop & deploy strategies to achieve year-over-year performance improvements in the Health & Safety program
  • Drive EH&S continuous improvement initiatives to ensure site meets annual targets in line with business unit goals
  • Assist with the investigation and resolution of incidents including root-cause analysis and providing probable causes of incidents and recommendations for resolution
  • Assist with EH&S issue resolution, root cause investigations, risk assessments, near miss programs and safe start programs.
  • Coordinate the site Sustainability Team, ensuring key initiatives are delivered on time
  • Complete job hazard risk assessments & process hazard risk assessments
  • Provide technical expertise, training, advise and continuous support to department Managers, supervisors and employees
  • Utilize CORE to foster continuous improvement
  • Liaise and negotiate with regulatory authorities (e.g., Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks [MECP], Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry [MNRF], Department of Fisheries and Oceans [DFO]), and the public to obtain and influence conditions of environmental permits, approvals and licenses, and to address issues related to environmental compliance and performance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proven working knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Building Codes and Fire Code.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Experience with machine safe-guarding, lock-out/tag-out, confined space, chemical processing.
  • Experience creating and presenting EH&S training.
  • Experienced with on the job hazard risk assessments
  • Organized with strong attention to detail, while managing multiple priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate and persuade others to effect change
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal)
  • CRSP, Environmental Professional (EP) or Environmental Professional in Training (EPt) is an asset
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science or related technical discipline and 5 years of prior relevant experience in manufacturing environment OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required
  • Successful candidates must meet all requirements under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Controlled Goods Directorate (CGD). Must be eligible to work in Canada.
