Should a suitable candidate not be found, external candidates will be considered.Reporting to the Manager, Career Services & Student Leadership and Engagement, the incumbent creates, develops and delivers current strategic career management programming in support of students’ and recent alumni objectives to successfully obtain and maintain employment in the client’s chosen field. The incumbent delivers consultative services through working with clients on a one-on-one, small group and classroom workshop delivery. The incumbent offers guidance and resources in the delivery of focused employment strategies to meet the client’s short and long term employment objectives. The incumbent educates and guides clients through the job search strategy process and its components. Collaboration with faculty and other staff members is essential to the duties of this position.What You’ll be DoingDelivering one-on-one services and programs to Sheridan students and alumni, including one-on-one consultations in personal marketing tools (cover letters, resumes, and portfolios); job search strategies; employment and career management strategies; employment research; interview skills; negotiation;Developing, maintaining and delivering employment related programming in classroom workshops to prepare students for up-coming networking or career fairs, and/or for general job search activities, by: determining structure and content of workshop; assessing and tailoring workshop content and delivery methods to meet the needs of the audience; continuously improve workshop content through review and revision efforts;Providing leadership to the Career Centre Peer Mentors and supporting the following related duties: recruiting, training, guiding and advising Peer Mentors; evaluating the skill development of the Peer Mentors against employability skills standards; developing the yearly plan of activities for the Career Centre Peer Mentors;Marketing services to faculty, students and alumni by: developing and implementing marketing campaigns on Career Centre services and programs related to employment search; contributing to the development and delivery of the Career Centre’s Communications Plan by identifying value-added services to Sheridan’s schools;Ensuring faculty, students, and alumni have access to valuable employment search and management materials and tools;Researching and sourcing relevant materials and other educational resources for the Career Centre’s resource lab and web site;Developing new materials and updating existing materials for use in the Career Centre’s resource labs and web site;Partnering with faculty members to develop materials in support of student field placements;Performing other related duties, as assigned.About YouYou are a student/client centered individual with a passion for facilitating student success and enhancing the student experience.Your exemplary organization and time management and communication skills allow you to facilitate the successful recruitment of Sheridan Co-op/Internship students by employers.Your have a keen ability to build solid relationships while managing and cultivating existing ones.Your excellent problem-solving skills , along with your conviction, perseverance, persuasiveness, initiative and creative thinking , allow you to resolve unexpected challenges and explore new communication tools and approaches.While you are highly collaborative when working in team environments, you also enjoy working independently.The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:3-year degree in Business, Humanities, Adult Education, Human Resources or a related field5 years of experience specializing in employment consulting/coaching a diverse population of job seekers (equivalency will be considered)Knowledge of community services, labour market, occupational requirements and job search resourcesKnowledge of career planning tools & resume critique approachesAbility to deliver classroom workshops at a post-secondary level of instructionCompletion of a Career Development certificate program would be considered an assetWho We Are: Every member of the Sheridan community is passionate about the transformational role we play in people’s lives.
