Job Description

The In-store Food Safety and Risk Compliance Team Member (TM) will support and sustain Global programs and specifications in Food Safety, PAWM, Chemical, Pest, Training, and Good Organics principles, and other regulated areas of the business. This role will partner with Store Leadership, Operational Support, and Global Retail Food Safety to support Store Teams in maintaining compliance and improving program execution.The individual in this role will be responsible for supporting all store teams, but may also be asked to support other areas, for a limited time, during extenuating circumstances. This position will report to the STL and work closely with Global Retail Food Safety, Ops Support Teams and Team Leadership.Store Support:

  • Work with all Teams in the store in a collaborative and influential manner toward continuous improvement of food safety standards.
  • Provides clear, concise, and well-organized communication to Store Leadership, Team Leadership and Ops Support teams.
  • Develops a collaborative relationship with RFS and assists RFS in implementing new initiatives that require food safety oversight.
  • Collaborates with Store Leadership and Team Leadership to:
    • Schedule time with RFS to review audits, reports, and inspection findings with RFS to identify areas for improvement.
    • Verify that each team’s corrective actions are being implemented based on the corrective action plan.
    • Verify that logs are completed as required (to include temperature checks, cooking logs, organic logs, and pest sighting logbooks).
    • Participate in the FSET meetings to support training of food safety topics and huddles.
    • Verify each team’s Food Safety Self-Audit compliance.
    • Verify Allergen Walk/Label Verification Compliance.
    • Verify Daily Work List is completed and signed off.
    • Verify signage for the Good Organics program in departments.
    • Verify chemical backstock is maintained according to Par Sheets.
    • Verify sanitation processes are correct at closing on each team.
  • Collaborates with RFS and Store Leadership in establishing and revising ongoing Corrective Action and Preventative Action Plans (CAPAs) to support stores in meeting and/or exceeding all deliverables in a timely and effective manner.
  • Supports RFS and the Store with the implementation of technology that enables improved Food Safety deliverables.
  • Provides support to Whole Foods Market on Amazon (WFMoA) business as it pertains to in-store execution for picking, bagging, stowing, and monthly Mystery Shop follow-up as needed.
  • Supports teams in developing and executing CAPA’s based on root cause analysis for Rapid Improvement Store Engagement (RISE) and Allergen Rapid Improvement Store Engagement (ARISE) incidents.
  • Participates in RISE calls and walks teams to follow up on RISE/ARISE corrective action to verify implementation. (Rapid Improvement Store Engagement).
Audits and Regulatory:
  • Works with RFS to reviews all forms of store audits and reports from 3rd Party Food Safety Audit Provider, Pest Control Service Providers, Chemical Providers and city, county, and state Health Inspections.
  • Supports the development of corrective action strategies with RFS and teams, ensuring execution and appropriate follow-up.
  • Supports compliance with and adherence to established standards and practices, including health, sanitation, and safe work practices.
  • Walks with Person in Charge during health department inspections if available.
Job Requirements:
  • Comprehensive understanding of WFM Food Safety Policies and Job Aids
  • Working knowledge of food safety regulations
  • Ability to work independently and maintain high productivity.
Qualifications:
  • Familiar with recipe and product development,
  • Can effectively present information and respond to questions from Team Members
  • Able to communicate effectively with others.
  • Good at multi-tasking, time management and decision making.
  • Good computer skills (Knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must be self-motivated, solution-oriented, and have good follow through.
  • Willing and able to work flexible hours (various shifts) including weekends.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Passion for the Whole Foods Market mission and core values.
  • Ability to embrace change.
  • BA/BS degree and 2-4 years’ relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 6-8 hours.
  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
  • Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Ability to work in a wet and cold environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
  • Can travel within the area and occasionally outside of he area.
