Job Description

Position:Human Resources Business PartnerReports To:Vice President Human ResourcesCommissionaires Great Lakes (CGL) is a private, not-for-profit organization founded in 1925 on a mandate that prioritizes providing meaningful employment for veterans and others committed to the well being of Canadians primarily in security guard and related services. Spanning Central and Southwestern Ontario, our services are customized to respond to the dynamic and evolving security needs of both private and public sector clients. These include uniformed guard, mobile response and support services, by-law enforcement and identification services. We are currently seeking a Vice President, Human Resources to join our senior leadership team.Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources the Human Resources Business Partner will support the Human Resources Department with Best Practices, supporting the Corporate Strategy and Operating objectives, by managing/overseeing acting as an advisor and providing guidance in various Human Resources functions.POSITION SUMMARY

  • Job type: Full-time permanent
  • Reports to: Vice President, Human Resources
  • Anticipated start date: Immediate
  • Salary: Offering a competitive salary based on experience
  • Hours of work: 9 am-5 pm, Monday through Friday
  • Location: Depending on the ideal candidate the position can be based at the Oakville or Barrie Office (hybrid in-office and remote work)
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Establishes credibility throughout the organization as an experienced Human Resources Business Partner.
  • Collaborate, build and maintain positive relationships with employees, management and union representatives.
  • Serves as liaison on HR initiatives and issues between the Corporate Office and the Branch offices.
  • Direct oversight and management of the Recruiting/Onboarding and Retention efforts.
  • Manages the Employee Anniversary Program.
  • Monitors and manages employee Active Idles/Inactive lists.
  • Assists with ensuring compliance with the various Provincial/Federal employment and Licensing Legislation.
  • Investigates and responds to third party complaints.
  • Performs Quality Audits of HR practices and employee files.
  • Triage for employee Benefits enquiries along with Benefits enrollment/Administration of non-unionized staff.
  • Assist with implementation of Over-Time Averaging Agreements.
  • Complete confirmation of employment requests either verbal or written.
  • Complete third-party requests for employment files and related information.
  • Review, approve, process Leave of Absences requests along with facilitating return to work.
  • Review and approve the issuing a Record of Employment for various reasons/cases.
  • Works through to resolution any new and ongoing employee relations issues, such as complaints, disciplinary actions, and performances improvement plans.
  • Effectively handles and resolves employee complaints.
  • Effectively investigates and responds to Step 1 Union Grievances.
  • Provides guidance and interpretation of Policies and ensures compliance with all provisions within the Collective Agreement.
  • Proactively communicates with the Vice President, Human Resources any issues that may have a significant impact to the business.
  • Other duties as may be assigned reasonably assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources and/or related field of study.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ progressively responsible Human Resources/Labour Relations experience gained in a similar services-based environment.
  • Designation as a CHRP and asset.
  • A relationship builder with a demonstrated ability to problem solve, is accountable and takes ownership.
  • Considerable practical experience in the application of employment standards, regulations and managing within a unionized workforce.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office).
  • Must have or qualify for Federal Secret Level II clearance.
  • Must be able to commute to the workplace and work from home as required.
  • Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and follow related corporate policies.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to operate in multitasking, sometimes stressful environment with changing and conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment as well as perform duties independently/remotely without supervision.
  • Attention to detail and process-oriented.
