Job Description

Personal Support Workers - Respite - Full Time (37.5hrs/week)Acclaim Health announces the availability of four (4) Full Time Personal Support Worker positions. This is a full-time position however due to the gradual opening of Respite Services at Patty’s Place, the hours of this position will be part-time for approximately 3 months. The initial part-time hours will be two 12-hour overnight shifts weekly (7:30pm-7:30am) either Monday/Tuesday or Wednesday/Thursday. Once full-time, the hours will include six 12-hour overnight shifts bi-weekly + one overnight 8-hour shift on rotating weekends. This position will require 2 weeks of full-time daytime orientation at Patty’s Place.PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides homemaking and personal support services to individuals in shared care facility..
  • Provides personal care and activities of daily living to clients
  • Performs delegated tasks as directed and trained by a Care Manager, Health Services
  • Assists with meal preparation and feeding as required.
  • Assists/engages in therapeutic recreation and activities as appropriate during the client’s stay in the overnight service area
  • Communicates changes in client condition or other complex situations to the Respite Coordinator
  • Documents information pertinent to the client’s stay in overnight respite service.
  • Effectively utilizes recognized GPA principles, communication and behaviour management strategies for working with persons with dementia
  • Works in a manner that ensures client safety
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Personal Support Worker Certificate
  • Registered on the Ontario PSW Registry
  • Medication Administration course (will be provided)
  • Food Handling Certification (will be provided)
  • Certification in Gentle Persuasive Approaches in Dementia Care (will be provided)
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license, use of vehicle and insurance per the company policy.
  • Certification in Basic First aid including certification in CPR-Basic Rescuer.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in gerontology and working with cognitively impaired persons
  • Understanding and knowledge of dementia and age-related experiences.
  • All Acclaim Health staff members must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a valid exemption within 5 weeks of hire.
