Job Description

Employment Status: Temporary Full-time (Up to 2 year contract) CUPE 5348Hours: 35 hours per weekLocation: Primary – Central branch. In this role, you will support Oakville Public Library’s mandate to Inspire Oakville through technology.What youll doAs a Technology Specialist - Librarian you will:

  • Work in partnership with Town of Oakville IT to ensure the library business needs are being met and supported by current technology solutions including web platforms, or to implement new technology solutions that address these needs.
  • Identify, plan and coordinate the delivery of technology training for all staff
  • Make recommendations to improve services and work flow between staff/customer and Library technology solutions
  • Liaise with Town IT staff to troubleshoot technology related issues.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies for service improvement
  • Elicit feedback from all levels of staff to identify technology issues that impede their ability to provide the high levels of Customer service and work with IS to create/update processes to resolve
  • Develop and maintain all procedures and documentation related to library technologies, including training documents
  • Assist in the statistical analysis and evaluation of technology use
  • Lead and/or participate in special projects as assigned
  • Assist in achieving business plan objectives
  • Lead or participate on internal teams and committees
  • Maintain transparent and timely communication with departments and staff
  • Consult on multiple projects as required

  • Deliver excellent service to customers of all ages by adhering to the library’s customers service pledge and being in compliance with AODA’s Customers Service Standard
  • Communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Prioritize multiple tasks, complete work and follow up on outstanding items in a timely manner
  • Be detail-oriented and accurate
Your experience and educational background:
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or computer science with significant experience in a service environment or MLIS degree with significant experience working in a technology-related library role
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience supporting library related technologies such as Integrated Library System/Discover layer (SirsiDynix preferred), Library website, and RFID technologies or equivalent experience within an IT related function
  • Experience in CSS, HTML and JavaScript is an asset
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
