Job Description

Summary: Performs all functions as required for the analysis and treatment of industrial wastewater and discharges to the sanitary sewer once treated to within acceptable discharge limit.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sample wastewater and analyze for all components as specified in facility work instructions.
  • Operate sludge dewatering equipment including plate and frame filter press and diaphragm pumps.
  • Sample and analyze wastewater effluent and document results.
  • Operate polymer feed system and sludge thickening equipment.
  • Monitor intake of wastewater and capacity calculations.
  • Operate facility via a combination of manual and HMI controlled processes.
  • Perform facility audit of equipment and inventory.
  • Operate in a safe and efficient manner with a focus on environmental sustainability.
  • Take necessary steps as specified in work instructions if effluent analysis are high or exceed allowable limits.
  • Complete reports relating to operational activities.
  • Communicate all process, health and safety or equipment deficiencies to site manager. Participate in follow-up meetings as needed.
  • Perform housekeeping duties for work area.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works with or near moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, strong odours and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Requires a diploma or degree such as technician, technologist or undergraduate degree in an environmental, mechanical or any process related discipline.
  • Requires proficient use of English with the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate concisely with other team members.
  • Requires the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, proportions, volume and rates. Ability to apply concepts of basic Algebra and Geometry.
  • Requires the proficient use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Requires the ability to work day-shift or night-shift with own reliable transportation.
