Job Description

Job DescriptionThink of "DRAGONS DEN" or "SHARK TANK": The Connected Vehicle Innovation team is responsible for driving emerging connected and infotainment technologies into our future vehicle portfolios to help give our customers an immersive experience while help solving their unmet needs.

  • You come up with a new insight to tackle an incredible problem in the domain of software, connectivity, and infotainment innovation.
  • You propose this idea and ask for funding to develop a prototype or partner with suppliers.

As an Advanced Technology Specialist in Electrical & HMI space, you will be working in GMs high growth area of Electric Vehicles, Strategic Innovation, and Ultium technology. You will be part of a multi-functional team, working with global partners, suppliers, utility companies to innovate new products and solutions and bring to market strategy. You will be using methodologies such as design thinking, and agile to ensure accurate valuation of the backlog and priorities of tasks.We are looking for individuals who demonstrate technical, hands-on, creativity, initiative and a high level of independent judgment that share a genuine passion for technology in this new and exciting space.Job duties:
  • Propose, develop, and promote exciting new insights in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Develop/Implement/Lead groundbreaking immersive innovative solutions/Prototypes for future vehicle platforms such as electric, autonomous, and connected vehicles.
  • Develop, design, and hands-on building of electrical and mechanical prototypes to satisfy the customer experiences
  • Lead internal and external partnerships to setup, and pilot EV Charging solutions and technology
  • Develop rapid prototypes using development boards and modules such as but not limited to Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Beaglebone, STM32, etc.
  • Develop and architect (low and high voltage) hardware while maintain the guidelines of meeting strict safety requirement protocols and system safety
  • Leveraging design thinking or other methodologies to help understand customer difficulties and identify novel solutions
  • Utilization of your creativity to protect and patent invention novelty
  • Contribute to the enablement of exciting in-vehicle experiences that position GM as an industry leader.
  • Love of problem solving and exhibit an ambitious spirit.
  • Leads activities bringing the customer perspective and is capable of balancing different customer needs.
  • Communicates, coordinates, and consults with other engineering departments, suppliers, and customers for overall engineering activities.
  • Know the latest and be knowledgeable in innovative trends related to area of expertise and beyond.
  • Leads change initiatives, supporting other employees to build consensus and providing mentorship on how to achieve expected change as fast as possible
  • Lead or support a number of cross-functional Advanced Technology Work (ATW) and/or agile framework development projects with both internal and external partners
  • Run multi-functional teams through either a staged gate process or agile scrum framework to achieve project landmarks.
  • Build and maintain project management plans, including budget, resource, scope, and timing documentation
  • Capture key technological findings and update Best Practices, Technical Specifications and Bill of Materials.
  • Travel as required - typically 2-4 weeks per year, primarily to Michigan and other locations in the US (once past current health pandemic).
Additional Job DescriptionQualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics with electrical and software preferred or related technical field
  • 3+ Years in development and design engineering experience
  • Experience in designing, developing and prototyping electrical hardware which includes working with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Beaglebone, STM32, etc.
  • Experience in hands on building of electrical and mechanical apparatus that can meet all safety requirements
  • Experience in programming and debugging skills such as Python, Java, C, C++, C#, Mobile Application, Web Development, etc.
  • Experience in Agile Framework and SCRUM processes
  • History of success in applying advanced technology to improve usability of complex systems
  • Strong real-world problem-solving skills in conjunction with other technical teams, internal and external.
  • Strong communication skills that drive consensus on proposed solutions.
  • Successful candidates will be required to attest to, and be prepared to provide proof of, their vaccination status and that any job offer will be conditional on the candidate being fully vaccinated.
Nice to Have
  • Masters degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Experience as a SCRUM Lead or Product owner
  • Functional experience in power electronics, batteries, infrastructure/utility systems, EV Charging systems.
  • Hands-on experience in digital and analog electronics, MCU platforms, wiring and embedded systems.
  • Experience with mechanical design using CAD software
  • Understanding of vehicle communication such as CAN, LIN, etc.
  • Experience with web development and back-end development including databases
  • Experience developing with IoT technologies such as: OTA, Bluetooth Low Energy, Cellular, Wi-Fi, Sensors and Geolocation.
  • Knowledge of EV Charging such as applications, products, standards, and protocols, including relevant IEEE, SAE, ISO, and other relevant standards.
