  • Contract Full-time – 37.5 hours/week
  • August 2022 to March 31, 2023
Under the supervision of the Director, Strategic Communications, Partnerships and Engagement (DSCPE) and Communications and Marketing Manager, the Communications Specialist develops, plans, executes and evaluates strategic internal and external communications plans and tactics for Grandview Kids’ diverse stakeholder groups; focuses on digital media (with oversight for the organization’s social media channels and website; participates in strategy development, content creation, trend tracking and analytical reporting; maintains a safe work environment; and carries out other duties as assigned.The Communications Specialist develops, plans, executes and evaluates strategic internal and external communications plans and tactics by:
  • writing, editing, and designing key publications, media materials and documents, including flyers, print ads and editorials, external correspondence, promotional materials, email campaigns, etc.;
  • providing communications support for key internally and externally focused initiatives, projects and events;
  • drafting and updating internal communications materials, such as staff communications and SharePoint intranet content;
  • offering communications counsel to internal stakeholders to build capacity;
  • providing media relations support, including writing media releases and advisories, coordinating media events and photo ops, and monitoring industry news and reporting media coverage; and
  • monitoring adherence to corporate brand standards for internal and external marketing materials.
  • focuses on digital media (with oversight for the organization’s social media channels and website) by executing the corporate social media strategy, including overseeing campaign planning, community management, reporting and insights;
  • ensuring alignment to overarching organization strategic communications plan;
  • crafting digital content, including web stories, videos, posts, features and blogs;
  • overseeing daily social media monitoring, posting and responding to comments or direct messages; and managing and growing Grandview Kids’ social media presence and engaging with audiences on social media platforms, such as LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Google and YouTube.
  • participates in strategy development, content creation, trend tracking and analytical reporting
  • completing external website updates, with continuous monitoring via Google analytics; and
  • using website and social media analytic tools to collect data, track and analyze trends, implement and test improvements.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education, minimum of 3-year diploma/degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or English.
  • Experience in writing, digital media and communications
  • Experience in a health care, not-for-profit or association environment an asset
  • Knowledge of editorial design, Canadian Press (CP) style
  • Knowledge of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
  • Graphic design skills an asset (Adobe Suite, Canva)
  • Excellent writing abilities, including research, interviewing, fact-checking and proofreading
  • Experience working with media monitoring and social media platforms and tools in a professional environment (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Sprout Social)
  • Effective client-focused communication
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, managing relationships with various internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrating sound judgement with the ability to maintain strict confidence
  • Ability to work comfortably within a multi-disciplinary team or autonomously
  • Ability to analyze situations in order to make creative, well-informed and timely decisions
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills in a high volume environment
  • Comfortable working with technology and applying new methods of communication
  • Ability to think critically and creatively to consistently develop the organization’s presence through several digital mediums
