Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The Internationalization Coordinator coordinates the activities of Durham College’s education abroad program, leads international education social media, and supports the international student support and engagement program. The incumbent will maintain and track international education abroad general agreements and MOUs; develop and deliver pre-departure and re-entry activities for faculty, staff and students; organize travel logistics for outgoing and incoming groups. The incumbent will also present ideas for new education abroad opportunities and see these new programs to launch, as well as promote global learning opportunities to DC students, faculty and staff interested in DC education abroad activities. The incumbent will play a role in partnership development, tracking and renewals.In addition, the incumbent will coordinate international education social media, explore new opportunities for social media engagement, and provide metrics on social media.As well, the incumbent will support the SSE team on other duties as assigned.Coordinating Education Abroad:

  • Provide information to students regarding the spectrum of education abroad opportunities and procedures for DC students learning abroad.
  • Liaise with international departments of partner institutions to implement education abroad activities including facilitating the arrival and departure of incoming and outgoing students.
  • Support incoming and outgoing students to build intercultural competence and the ability to manage the process of adapting to a new culture.
  • Liaise with international partners on semester abroad agreements, and student advisors on the semester abroad program.
  • Review and update education abroad procedures and processes, and articulate these among all relevant stakeholders within the college.
  • Develop education abroad materials including guidelines, website content, social media, presentations, feedback forms and print material.
  • Working with faculty or staff, lead the development, marketing, recruitment and implementation of incoming and outgoing short-term education abroad opportunities.
  • Participate fully in student selection for education abroad opportunities; create and maintain application materials; review applications.
  • Establish and maintain professional networks with related local, provincial, national, and international organizations and agencies; participate on committees and serve as liaison with other departments to provide information on available resources, programs, and/or services; attend professional conferences and training sessions.
Supporting partnerships:
  • Assist in the development, implementation and tracking of international General Agreements of Cooperation (GAC) and Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with the appropriate academic offices and international partners to facilitate their timely completion and renewal, and monitor results. Support Durham College in the stewardship of international partnerships by establishing regular communications between DC and our partners.
Leading social media:
  • Develop engaging content (including graphics) for upcoming events and activities.
  • Create and track social media posts.
  • Develop new initiatives to increase social media traffic.
  • Monitor the office’s social media accounts and offer constructive interaction with followers in a timely manner.
  • Report to the supervisor about the most frequently asked questions coming through social media.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum three- year diploma/degree in international-related studies, such as globalization studies, international politics, international business, or other studies in the humanities or social sciences (e.g. business).
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working in post-secondary education and/or working with an internationally engaged clientele.
  • Ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse clientele and communicate effectively across cultures.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft 365 and excellent knowledge of social media platforms, with the ability to skillfully use social media tools.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Fluency in another language is an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of the college and college programs.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet the demands of competing priorities and meet deadlines, as well as the ability to work and contribute as a member of a dynamic, diverse team.
  • The incumbent will have tact, integrity, diplomacy skills, the ability to maintain confidentiality, excellent interpersonal, intercultural, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of the Banner Student Information System and experience studying, living or working abroad or with international clients will be considered assets.
