Our strategic pursuit of sustainable growth, excellent community service delivery and co-operative partnerships have enhanced our quality of life advantage, while maintaining a strong commitment to fiscal restraint.Posting Number: 004029Job Title: March Break Camp Employment (2023)City: Oshawa Province: OntarioEmployment Group: Exempt Wage Rate: $14.60- $18.93 Standard Weekly Hours of Work: Up to 44 Shift Work Required: YesPosting End Date: 2023/01/15Job DescriptionReporting to the Program Coordinator, are responsible for the supervision of campers through planning & implementing camp activities, engage and interact with participants and parents/guardians while providing direction in a fun and enjoyable environment.March Break camps run March 13 to March 17, 2023. Mandatory staff training will take place evenings and weekends prior to March Break.The City of Oshawa strives to provide an environment that cultivates and supports the following core values: Authenticity, Courage, and Trust (ACT).Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safety, enjoyment, and care of registered participants in City of Oshawa camp programs
  • Prepare and implement daily program plans
  • Respond to first aid situations
  • Be familiar with City of Oshawa policies and procedures and emergency procedures and be able to implement such procedures (fire, power failure, building evacuation)
  • Report all incidents, accidents, issues and concerns to the Program Coordinator - Complete all formal paperwork (accident, incident, complaint forms, weekly attendance)
  • Answer questions and inquiries, while providing effective customer service to registrants/patrons of the program
  • Ensure all equipment is prepared/put away during each session
  • Other duties as assigned
RequirementsApplicants employed in previous seasons must reapply. Previous applicants or incumbents are not guaranteed an interview or employment from year to year. Consideration for employment will be determined by both operational needs and a successful performance appraisal from your previous supervisor.
  • Possess and keep current Standard First Aid & CPR ‘C’ qualifications
  • Provide a current (within six months) Criminal Information Request prior to employment start date
  • Demonstrate good customer service and communication skills to deal effectively and courteously with staff and the general public; good interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
  • Previous volunteer and/or previous experience in a camp or similar setting is an asset
  • Experience working with children in a similar setting
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings, including evenings and weekends
