Job Description

Job DescriptionKey Responsibilities

  • Lead and support functional safety assessments and analysis of novel components, systems and customer centric features developed in advanced technology projects.
  • Determine System Safety scope, deliverables, and timelines, and develop a System Safety Project Plan for advanced technology projects.
  • Work with project leads to identify the necessary System Safety resources and lead execution of safety tasks identified in the System Safety Project plan.
  • Support project leads in the development of Statements of Development Work (SODWs) by providing System Safety related targets, requirements and expectations.
  • Support the supplier selection process by assessing capability and performance of suppliers related to the GM Safety process.
  • Lead technical reviews (Formal and Informal) for all System Safety deliverables.
  • Lead System Safety strategy design discussions and work with project teams and suppliers to ensure safety requirements are comprehensive and incorporated in the design.
  • Provide guidance to advanced technology project teams and suppliers on GM safety process.
  • Work with project teams and suppliers to resolve conflicts concerning safety requirements and involve the assigned Senior System Safety Engineer as required.
  • Escalate unresolved safety related issues and concerns to management in accordance with the GM Issue Resolution process.
  • Document System Safety best practices implemented by project teams for potential reuse in other advanced technology projects and/or programs.
  • Interface with Senior System Safety Engineer, corporate and industry experts to stay current in safety processes, methods and tools.
Required Skills and Experience
  • In-depth experience and demonstrated technical knowledge in one OR more of the following:
  • Transportation System Safety
  • Electrical Design and Architecture, Software, Vehicle Dynamics, Active Safety, EMC or Control Theory
  • Electrical Systems, Architecture and Component Design and Development, Software Design and Development
  • Systems Engineering
  • Control systems development and rapid prototyping using MATLAB/Simulink and/or CarSim software tools
  • Experience or knowledge of tools such as Rhapsody, IBM Rational DOORS, IBM Rational Team Concert. Hands-on experience and demonstrated proficiency in qualitative and quantitative fault analysis using failure mode and effects (FMEA) analysis, fault tree analysis (FTA) and other industry common fault analysis tools and techniques.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience or knowledge of relevant software tools such as Fault Tree Plus and Medini Analyze
  • High level of interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively cross-functionally and cross-culturally.
  • Demonstrated self-starter who can work independently and manage ambiguity.
  • Expert knowledge and experience with IEC 61508 and/or ISO 26262.
  • Experience with sensor and/or fusion related projects.
  • People with a passion for trailering, electrical systems, new technologies or mobility systems
  • Expertise in developing various levels of technical specifications for mechatronic systems
  • Several years of demonstrated technical knowledge and ability in relevant engineering disciplines such as Electrical Design and Architecture, Software, Vehicle Dynamics, Active Safety, EMC, or Control Theory
  • History of success in applying advanced technology to enhance usability of complex systems
  • Strong organizational, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience with Python and MATLAB programming
  • Experience with image processing and computer vision algorithms (OpenCV library).
  • Experience with microcontrollers (MABX, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, SoCs...) and sensors.
  • Highly adaptable and able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Valid Canadian Drivers License
  • Able to travel to the United States
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • DFSS Black Belt or Red X Master
  • Vehicle Dynamics, Chassis, Active Safety and/or Infotainment systems knowledge and experience.
  • Vehicle Health Monitoring knowledge.
  • Design release engineering experience.
Education and Training
  • Minimum Bachelors degree in Engineering, or related degree; Electrical, Mechatronics, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence, Computer, Systems Design
  • Advanced Degrees preferred
  • 2+ years experience designing and engineering state-of-the-art products in the mobility or consumer electronics sector - Strong understanding of major mobility subsystem
