Job Description

Art / Woodworking Teacher (Combined Role)St-Laurent Academy is a dynamic and inspiring, JK to Grade 12, Private School located in Ottawa, Ontario.We are growing significantly, recently purchasing a new school space in the beautiful Rockcliffe/Lindenlea neighbourhood, and are currently accepting applications for a full-time Art/Woodworking Teacher for 2025 - 2026 School Year.Positions:

  • Art/ Woodworking Teacher (All Grade Levels - Kindergarten to Grade 8).
Job Types: Full-Time.Qualifications:
  • Must be eligible to work in Ontario.
  • B.Ed with Ontario Teaching Certification (OCT) in good standing. Note: equivalent certification (within a vocational trade) is accepted, along with combined classroom experience.
  • Excellent classroom management, organization, and planning skills. Again, teaching experience is essential.
  • Excellent oral, written, communication, and presentation skills in English.
  • Computer literacy: proficient and knowledgeable with all Google Suite products (Google Classroom, Docs, Slides, Forms, Sheets)Microsoft Office (Excel), and Smart-board Technology.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of each student.
  • Understands the needs of students and goes beyond the call of duty.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues, administration, and parents.
  • Flexible, with an ability to manage to change strategies, environments, and needs.
  • Core characteristics with regards to kindness, patience, creativity, positive energy and a love for teaching is essential.
  • Ability to present an Art Based Portfolio of completed works and lessons.
  • Practical experience in woodworking or carpentry is crucial to demonstrate your skills and knowledge.
  • You need to know how to safely use and operate various woodworking tools (at this time, heavy machinery will NOT be used).
  • Knowledge of Shop Safety- A strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures is essential for a safe learning environment.
The following assets are preferred but not required:
  • Ability to communicate in French.
  • Experience in a private/independent school.
  • Experience /Education in Special Education is valued highly.
  • Coaching and Leadership experiences (the Arts, Sports, Clubs, etc.) are important.
Compensation and Benefits:
  • Competitive salary with additional annual bonus components.

The school follows the traditional school year calendar from early September through late June.Our High School is per semester.
