Job Description

Currently, our Engineering team is seeking a full-time Systems Engineer for the interdisciplinary engineering and technology team in our Ottawa, ON office.Working with an interdisciplinary engineering team, the Systems Engineer leads the development of specifications and plans that provide the means to enable the realization of successful systems with focus on defining customer needs and required functionality early in the development cycle. The Systems Engineer will document requirements, lead efforts in design synthesis, definition of hardware and software configuration items, trade-off analysis and sub-system and system validation. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that the technical elements of system design are coordinated to ensure all parts of the system design are integrated, coherent and achieve an effective system.The Systems Engineer is the primary technical interface between management, customers, and specialty engineers in the systems development process.Dutiesamp; Responsibilities:

  • Review, develop and document system level operational concepts and mission statements
  • Develop, allocate and manage complex systems level requirements
  • Research and develop complex electro-mechanical systems, designs and architectures
  • Support software development activities
  • Prepare, coordinate and review documentation for systems designs and architectures in accordance with established systems development processes and procedures
  • Provide key technical planning information to the Project Manager including technical risk and potential impact assessment
  • Lead system / product integration
  • Coordinate verification and validation aspects of systems designs to ensure conformance with functional specifications and customer requirements
  • Support various specialty engineering tasks, such as Reliability, Maintainabilityamp; Availability analysis, Integrated Logistics Support, Failure Analysis and Safety Engineering tasks for complex systems
  • Support proposal development activities, including proposal text development, cost estimating and presentation activities
Requirements
  • Bachelor #39;s or Master #39;s degree in Electronics Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in a system engineering role dealing with safety critical radio and / or telecommunications systems designed for use in harsh environments
  • Solid understanding of system level concepts and the ability to use them for system analysis, specification writing, trade-off management and requirements management and traceability
  • Functional and System Specification writing experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary R amp;D and Product Development teams, as well as customers and contractors
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills for diagnosing difficult system-level issues
  • Eligibility for a Canadian security clearance to the level of Secret Level II
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a working knowledge of military standards and lab skills for system performance analysis, knowledge of model-based systems engineering , and familiarity with reliability, availability, maintainability and failure analysis concepts
