We are recognized in Canada and around the world as a leader in the provision of Intervenor Services.Sensity has an opportunity for an Activity Coordinator to join our team in Paris, ON. Reporting to the Manager of Intervenor Services, this position is responsible for the research, development, implementation and evaluation of a curriculum of new programs for individuals who are deafblind. The curriculum is comprised of a full spectrum of programs including, cultural, sensory and recreational activities in support of Sensity #39;s organizational objectives and commitment to enhance the lives of people who are deafblind through support, services, awareness, recognition and intervenor services. Key Accountabilities

  • Researches, investigates, develops and implements programs focusing on cultural, employment, sensory and recreational activities.
  • Develops and maintains the scheduling for the sensory, music, respite, and activity areas within the Resource Centre.
  • Delivers in-house training as required in the use of the various equipment within the sensory, music, respite, and activity rooms.
  • Collaborates with the Intervenor Services staff to develop themes, program content and a monthly activity calendar.
  • Administers the logistics for the Snoezelen sensory, music, respite and other activity rooms inclusive of activity set-up and tear down, monitoring and maintaining equipment, financial records, appointments and effectiveness.
  • Ensures documentation and records are completed according to established procedures and protocols.
  • Oversees the expenditures for supplies, registration fees and activity materials
  • Performs other duties, as required.
Position RequirementsQualifications
  • Completion of a college diploma in Recreation and Leisure or a comparable program; Completion of a college diploma or certificate in Intervenor Services would be considered an asset;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of recreation experience including the development of activity plans;
  • In depth understanding of deafblindness and intervenor services would be considered an asset;
  • Strong programming, facilitation and leadership skills are required with proven ability to modify approaches and techniques to accommodate different needs and learning styles;
  • Solid experience with budgets, planning and implementing recreating activities is an asset;
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Solid time management, attention to detail and organizational skills. Adaptable and flexible with the ability to respond to changing work priorities, pressures and demands;
  • In depth knowledge of MS Office Suite is preferred, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Communication in both official languages (English/French) is an asset
Working Environment and Demands
  • The position is primarily performed in the head office setting, but does involve working in a variety of settings i.e. Resource Centre and community environments.
  • Occasional requirement for multi-tasking, simultaneous multiple urgent demands and / or work requiring attention to detail, subject to frequent, regular interruptions, or peak periods requiring an accelerated work pace or deadlines.
  • Occasional exposure to uncomfortable, challenging or hazardous conditions, such as noise, driving in inclement weather / poor road conditions, or verbal conflict.
  • Salaried position based on 40 hours / week, working a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Occasional travel is required within Ontario.
  • Sustained requirement for manual dexterity / coordination for computer use; regular requirement for light physical exertion typical of an office position, such as sitting, standing, walking and operating office equipment; minimal requirement for heavy physical exertion, including the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (e.g. paper, files, office equipment machines).
  • Regular requirement for low-intensity mental, visual or aural concentration for such activities as reading, inputting data, taking notes; minimal requirement for high intensity mental, visual or aural concentration such as analyzing large volumes of data, listening to calls / presentations or face-to-face interactions of a more complex nature; minimal requirement for emotional strain.
