Job Description

The Opportunity: : McElhanney Ltd. has a rewarding opportunity for an individual to join our team as a Field Survey Technician to join our team in Peace River, AB. We are a unique office that provides a wide range of engineering services to clients throughout Northwestern Alberta.This position requires a motivated, highly productive person to lead a busy survey crew carrying out legal, topographic, and construction layout surveys. The successful candidate will work within a team on a variety of projects including Land Development, municipal infrastructure, and road construction. In this role you will work alongside experienced survey technicians under supervision of an Alberta Land Surveyor. This role is ideal for a coachable individual who is excited to be a part of a growing team in a fast-paced industry.What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Lead a field crew (2 person or independent) for various surveys including legal, land development (subdivisions), topographic, and construction layout.
  • Provide on-site contractor inspections to monitor the quality and progress of the work being performed
  • Perform on-site liaison between Project Manager and client/contractor as required.
  • Perform computations of survey data as required.
  • Manage flow of information between field and office, and prepare clear, concise and accurate field notes, records and calculations.
  • Be forward thinking; understand the construction progress and be able to learn the specifications and requirements of the work which they will be inspecting
  • Help prepare monthly progress payments and other associated Contract Administration tasks
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to junior or support staff.
  • Understand, commit to, and fulfill responsibilities under the McElhanney Quality Management System, ISO 9001 and all client quality, safety, and environmental management systems
What You’ll Bring :
  • 2-year technical diploma in Geomatics with at least 5 years’ previous experience in a similar role
  • Periods of travel will be required for the role
  • Willingness to commit to construction projects for the duration of the project
  • Experience with Municipal, Highways, or Bridge construction projects is an asset
  • Proficiency in computer systems, and survey related software applications (MicroSurvey/StarNet, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Trimble Business Centre software knowledge an asset)
  • Ability to foresee potential issues and problems so these items can be addressed and resolved
  • Exceptional organization and follow-up skills; ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment, meticulous note keeping
  • Clean driving record and the ability to comply with client-driven D&A testing requirements
