Job Description

At the City of Penticton, our goal is to serve our residents, businesses, and visitors through good governance, partnership, and the delivery of effective and community-focused services.The City of Penticton #39;s Park #39;s Department is in search of a highly skilled and energetic individual for the full-time permanent position of Parks Amenities Foreman. The Parks branch of Public Works is responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of the parks, beaches, sports fields, trails and cemeteries within our community.Reporting to the Parks Supervisor, the Parks Amenities Foreman provides leadership and direction in the daily management and maintenance of City park infrastructure specifically taking care of park playgrounds, beaches, pathways, water equipment, outdoor sport courts, and so on, to support park usage by individual members of our community, visitors and user groups. The successful applicant exercises considerable independent judgement and action in completing assignments and supervises the work of staff and contractors as required.Key Responsibilities:

  • Organizes, directs, trains, supervises and assists staff engaged in the duties of maintaining and constructing related City infrastructure.
  • Provides technical guidance, leadership, motivation, coaching, instruction and direction to work crews.
  • Conducts site inspections to plan and prioritize work projects, and to ensure work is of proper quality, on schedule, within budgetary requirements and satisfies safe work practices and regulations.
  • Responds to inquiries from staff, contractors, various user groups, and the public.
  • Maintains courteous and positive public relations with co-workers, customers, community representatives and contractors.
  • Oversees and ensures that all safety rules are being followed at all sites at all times.
  • Researches new methods, services, materials and equipment to improve the operation, prepares cost estimates.
  • Creates and maintains rotating work schedules for seasonal waterfront staff for litter control, beach cleaning and general maintenance.
  • Plans, assigns, and oversees duties related to various small parks projects.
  • Coordinates daily tasks according to priorities and plans, adjusting as necessary due to weather, supply delivery, and personnel.
Required Qualifications:
  • Courses or certification in park construction, carpentry, horticulture maintenance, health and safety, risk management and supervisory training.
  • Experience in landscape construction and or maintenance in a municipal setting.
  • Knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office, Geographic Information Systems and related software.
  • Certified Playground Inspector certificate.
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience and the ability to build strong teams.
  • Excellent leadership qualities including interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Exceptional problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Knowledge of parks specifications, methods and techniques.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices related to equipment, tools and work in Parks Environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Completion of secondary school along with 5years experience in parks or landscape construction work environment.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver #39;s Licence with Air Brakes endorsement.
