The camp is owned and operated by Scouts Canada, Voyageur Council, and is one of the finest residential Scout camps in Canada.This camp is located on the southern tip of the Canadian Shield on Christie Lake, 100 km southwest of Ottawa. This idyllic camp is located on more than 200 acres of rugged terrain, nestled among three pristine lakes, provides the perfect Scouting adventure away from busy roads and crowded cities.GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Campground Maintenance Staff (4 positions) will work in teams to maintain and improve the condition of the property. These positions will be responsible the general upkeep of the campground and buildings, and will conduct routine cleaning operations.WORK ENVIRONMENT This position will reward the employee with a beautiful natural work environment and plenty of fresh air this summer. However, the position does require significant physical effort and labor, including lifting and repetitive physical tasks. Operating basic landscaping machinery and the camp pickup truck will be required. Campground Maintenance Staff will work outdoors in all weather conditions.Maintenance Staff will be provided PPE and safety equipment, but they will be expected to supply their own CSA certified safety work boots, and work gloves.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES · Prepare the Camp for summer operations· Basic landscaping and cleaning· General repairs and maintenance of all camp buildings· Minor carpentry, painting, and plumbing· Lawn cutting and trimming using ride-on mowers, push mowers, and gas powered trimmers· Cutting and removing brush· Dock and deck maintenance· New construction projects under supervision of the Warden· Janitorial duties including bathroom sanitation and garbage collection· Pest control, when necessary· Maintenance of all equipment and tools, including sharpening and oil changes· Prepare inventories of materials and tools· Processing firewood and delivering it to campsitesQUALIFICATIONS· Standard First Aid & CPR· Valid drivers license· Able to lift 50 lbs· Comfortable working in an outdoor environment during inclement weather· Live within a reasonable daily commute to Camp Opemikon. 530 Hanna rd, Maberly, On, K0H 2B0Specific work experience is not required for this position, however considerations will be made for candidates with aptitudes or previous work experience in the following fields:· Maintenance· Construction trades· Scouting experience and/or work experience at Camp Opemikon· Landscaping, lawn care· Small engine mechanicsIf you feel you would be a great addition to the Camp Opemikon Maintenance Staff team, please submit a cover letter and resumeby May 9th, 2021.
