Job Description

Pay Rate: $32.80/hourThe Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board is currently accepting applications from Educational Interpreter for casual/supply work to begin immediately.The purpose of the Educational Interpreter position is to provide visual presentation of what is being said to students who are deaf or hard of hearing using various modes of communications such as cues, sign language, finger spelling or oral interpretation and verbal communication from these students to others, to assist with the attainment of academic concepts and facilitate activities that contribute to school life experience.Casual work can lead to long-term placements and eventual permanent positions. We are a large Board with an emphasis on special education. Therefore, we seek candidates who are available and wanting to work regularly. You must be available to work for a minimum of 3 days per week.Work will be available in four geographical regions. Due to the large size of our Board, successful candidates are not expected to work in all geographical areas. Please note in your application the geographic area(s) in which you are applying to work.

  • Western - Bowmanville/Courtice area
  • Southern - Port Hope/Cobourg area
  • Eastern - Brighton/Campbellford area
  • Northern - Peterborough area
Education and experience for EA Interpreter positions:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • The Interpreter Training Diploma for Deaf Education (a 3 year College program); and
  • One (1) to three (3) years experience
  • 200 hours of American Sign Language required before admission to the educational program
  • Finger spelling
  • Advanced level computer skills for word processing and spreadsheets:
