As a Contract Faculty member you will play a key role by promoting academic excellence, developing an effective learning environment, and designing, teaching, revising and updating curriculum. Your previous working experiences will provide a broad range of practical knowledge to enhance the student learning experience. Contract Faculty may teach in teams or independently and develop/deliver curriculum in a variety of ways including face-to-face (lectures, seminars, labs) and online.We are currently recruiting contract faculty to teach in our Customs/Border Services Program. The Customs/Border Services program at Fleming provides experiential, hands-on learning with real life enforcement tools to help prepare students for common enforcement-related activities in the field with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). Check out Life@Fleming.What We Are Looking For:Education and Experience: You possess a relevant combination of education and current experience including a post-secondary diploma/degree in Customs/Border Services Administration or Law and Security - Customs Administration. You will also have at least five years experience as a Border Services Officer (BSO) with time spent in both the casual/passenger importer and commercial importing environments. You will have experience with: B15 Casual Importers accounting documents, B3 Customs Commercial accounting documents, Cargo Control Document coding, use of the CBSA Directive Memoranda, indirect tax applications, CBSA invoice and Cargo Control Documentation processing, the Accelerated Commercial Release Operations Support System (ACROSS), the Integrated Customs Enforcement System (ICES), and the Primary Automated Lookout System (PALS).Additional Assets: Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Training, valid Canadian driver’s licence, valid firearms Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL), valid Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification, Officer’s Powers training, Personal Protection (Controlled Defensive Tactics) training, previous experience and certification operating a common baggage x-ray machine, experience with CBSA Assessment and Revenue Management (CARM), eManifest, Other Government Department permits, Teaching Adults certification, previous employment in a Customs brokerage office or in a logistics/Customs office of a private importer, or any other similar/related employment in private industry.Previous Teaching Experience: Ideally you have experience in applying theories of adult learning in teaching or training at the post-secondary level including curriculum development and using a variety of techniques. This role also requires self-motivation, flexibility and a passion for learning and student success. You will work in a team environment and develop/deliver curriculum using a variety of teaching methodologies which may include lectures, seminars, labs, field trips, work placements, computer simulation, online learning or other innovative delivery methods. Experience in an e-learning environment with comfort teaching both face-to-face or web-based delivery is a definite asset.Communication: Superior interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deliver and receive feedback, as well as well-developed critical thinking/problem solving, and organizational / time management skills are required.
